Boss Paul Jewell is confident the Blues can cut through the swathe of red tape which is preventing French midfielder Cheick Kourouma from signing his contract. The 19-year-old has agreed terms with the Blues but finalising agreements with his former clubs is holding up the free agent’s move to Portman Road.

Trialist keeper Eldin Jakupović has impressed boss Paul Jewell since joining up with the Blues for pre-season. The 27-year-old Bosnian-born former Swiss international is a free agent having left Greek club Aris, one of Town’s 1981 UEFA Cup opponents, at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old, who was close to joining Hull City after a trial at the end of last season before the change of management at the KC Stadium, is a free agent having left Greek side Aris, who were amongst Town’s opponents as they won the 1981 UEFA Cup.

The Town squad will be back at Playford Road this morning for the start of pre-season training. The first day shouldn’t come as too much of a shock to the system with the players having been given individual fitness programmes for the summer months with plenty of players already having spent time back at the club and striker Michael Chopra at a $4,500-a-week health retreat in California.

Chambers was at Portman Road for talks, a medical and the traditional tour of the stadium and training facilities on Tuesday but is yet to formally agree to join the Blues.

The 26-year-old returned home to Nottingham last night with rumours circulating that the move would break down with Leeds and a number of other clubs also believed to be interested.
