Colchester manager John Ward said he and Blues boss Paul Jewell agreed to abandon Town’s pre-season friendly at Colchester along with referee Darren Deadman after U’s midfielder Andy Bond suffered a serious facial injury in the game’s closing stages. Ward revealed Bond lost a tooth and was unconscious for 30 seconds before he was helped to an ambulance at the side of the pitch with blood streaming down his face.

Bond required lengthy treatment with the injury considered so severe that an ambulance was brought to the edge of the pitch causing the abandonment, with Bond eventually helped across to it with blood streaming down his face.

New Icelandic defender Ívar Ingimarsson is set to be one of three players making their first appearances in a Town shirt when the Blues travel to Colchester United this evening (KO 7.45pm). The 34-year-old, who has been sidelined with a thigh injury for much of pre-season, is due to be joined by new loan keeper David Stockdale and striker or midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas for the visit to the Weston Homes Community Stadium, with their signings expected to be announced later this afternoon.
