Manager Joe Royle has confirmed that Dean McDonald will be offered a deal with the club in the summer. The 18-year-old winger or striker, in the squad for Saturday's home game with Crewe, has been on a short-term deal designed to give him time to show the Town management what he can do.

Defenders David Unsworth and Fabian Wilnis are Town's injury concerns ahead of Saturday's crunch last home league game of the season against Crewe. Unsworth strained an ankle ligament in last week's draw at Leeds, while the Dutchman turned his ankle in training on Wednesday.

Boss Joe Royle says both his first-choice full-backs have a chance of being OK to face Dario Gradi's relegation-threatened side: "Friday will be a big day for them both. We will want to see them back in training and hopefully neither of them will miss the Crewe game.

Former Town loanee Andy Legg has been forced to end his playing career after a tumour on his neck was shown to be cancerous. Currently with Peterborough, Legg played seven games and scored one goal while on loan with the Blues in late 1997.
