Midfielder Matt Richards could miss the start of pre-season training due to the ankle injury he picked up towards the end of 2005/06. Richards sustained the injury in training and was ruled out of the final match of the season at Plymouth.

Northampton Town will be due £125,000 in compensation should their manager Colin Calderwood be named the new boss at Portman Road. Calderwood's contract with the Cobblers, which runs to 2008, is understood to include a buy-out clause if the former Spurs and Swindon centre-half chooses to take another job.

Keeper Lewis Price won another U21 cap as Wales defeated Estonia 5-1 at Wrexham in the second leg of their UEFA U21 Championship play-off. The Welsh were already 2-0 up from the first leg and have qualified to play in next season's UEFA U21 competition.

Town physio Dave Williams says that midfielder Owen Garvan will be fit to start pre-season training in June despite missing out on the recent Republic of Ireland U19 matches. Garvan was suffering from a number of problems towards the end of 2005/06 including a knee injury and was withdrawn from the Irish party.

Ken Malcolm, a regular for the Blues during Sir Alf Ramsey's time as manager, has died at Ipswich Hospital aged 79 after a long illness. The Scottish left-back was with Town after joining from Arbroath in 1954 until his retirement 10 years later.

Former Blue Nabil Abidallah was given a three-year conditional discharge at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court on Monday after pleading guilty to burglary. The Dutch midfielder took electrical equipment from his former flat in Hadleigh having left some months earlier.
