TWTD has learnt that more than £80,000 has been placed on Joe Royle becoming the new Town manager over the last few hours. Yesterday TWTD reported that Town have been in talks with the former Manchester City boss who is now emerging as the firm favourite for the job.

Town wonderkid Darren Ambrose has been called-up to the England U19 squad for the European Qualification mini-tournament next month. Unfortunately for Town the games clash with the games against Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough.

BBC commentator John Motson says Town will announce their new manager in the next few days and doesn't expect it to be Peter Reid. Motson was in Suffolk to receive an honorary doctorate in Civil Law from Suffolk College.

TWTD has learnt that a number of Town fans are planning to travel to the Czech Republic for Town's UEFA Cup match against Slovan Liberec without tickets to the game. Many booked flights and accommodation only for the supply of tickets to run out before they were entitled to purchase them.

Joe Royle is the latest name we understand to have been in contact with Town over the vacant management position. Former Manchester City boss Royle has been out of a job since leaving Maine Road last summer.

Veteran central defender Mark Venus is a doubt for Saturday's match with Gillingham after picking up a back injury on Tuesday night. Venus was replaced in 80th minute by Wayne Brown.
