Scowy Worry Fri 22nd Sep 2000 10:41
Town striker James Scowcroft is the Blues' latest worry for Saturday's clash with Arsenal. The Stanton-based player bruised his foot in training and joins Fabian Wilnis as aserious concern for tomorrow. Wilnis jarred his knee during the 2-0 defeat at Millwall on Tuesday and along with Scowcroft missed training yesterday. If Scowcroft misses out it is likely that the Johnson/Stewart partnership will be given another try, while Gary Croft looks likely to deputise for the injured Wilnis.
Kreis on his Bike Thu 21st Sep 2000 15:25
Reports are linking Town with Dallas Burn striker Jason Kries. The 27-year-old is the Burn's highest all-time scorer and plays for the national side. We're highly sceptical (or should that be skeptical?) of this report, but you never know do you?
Dheedene Link for Real Wed 20th Sep 2000 20:29
Town manager George Burley has refused to comment on stories linking Anderlecht defender Didier Dheedene. This is usually a sign that George Burley is indeed interested in a player, although quite why we may be after a defender is perplexing. Twenty-eight-year-old Dheedene previously played for the rather worrying sounding Germinal Ekeren before joining Anderlecht in 1997. Dheedene, who scored last night in the Champions' League, is rated at £1.5 million and is also reported to be interesting Southampton.
Club Chaplain Appointed Wed 20th Sep 2000 13:30
Town have appointed a new club chaplain, the Reverend Kevan McCormack. The position is an honorary one and David Sheepshanks welcomed the appointment: "I’m very pleased that Kevan McCormack has been able to take on this role, combining it with his many other responsibilities. This is an important supportive position both for the Club generally and especially for our Academy players where pastoral care is an essential component of daily life."
Dheedene Link Renewed Wed 20th Sep 2000 10:31
Town are again being linked with Anderlecht defender Didier Dheedene. The Belgian was first linked with Town on September 10th and the story seems to be a re-hash of that rumour. Southampton are also linked with the 28-year-old defender and he is rated at £1.5 million.
Millwall 2-0 Town Wed 20th Sep 2000 01:24
The Blues fell to a Worthington Cup second round first leg defeat as they failed to take chance after chance as well as making errors at the back. Town kicked off with Martijn Reuser in a four man midfield with Matt Holland on the bench. Gary Croft came into the side for Fabian Wilnis, John Scales for the injured Titus Bramble and David Johnson for Marcus Stewart. Rain lashed the New Den throughout and made the surface difficult at times.
Titus Out Tue 19th Sep 2000 14:43
Titus Bramble is likely to miss tonight's Worthington Cup second round fitst leg at the New Den with a hip injury. The 19-year-old received a shocking challenge on Saturday from Lee Bowyer and this looks likely to have caused the injury. John Scales will take over at the back. As expected Amir Karic will not start, although he seems likely to come on at some stage. George Burley said: "Amir has only trained for one morning with us and it is too early for him to begin a match."
Karic Bargain Mon 18th Sep 2000 17:01
Town's new signing Amir Karic's fee has been revealed as just £700,000, a fraction of the price a similar UK-based player would have cost.
Karic Signed and in Squad Mon 18th Sep 2000 14:22
Town have confirmed that Amir Karic has signed on the dotted line. The Slovenian's work permit came through at the weekend and with the final red tape now cleared Karic goes into the squad for tomorrow's game at Millwall. The combative left-back or midfielder has been awarded the number 33 shirt. Full squad: R Wright, Salmon, Wilnis, Croft, Clapham, Karic, Holland, Magilton, Bramble, McGreal, Hreidarsson, Scales, Brown, J Wright, Reuser, Scowcroft, Johnson, Stewart and Mowbray.
Karic Receives Clearance Mon 18th Sep 2000 11:55
Amir Karic, Town's latest signing, has received his work permit and will be in the squad for tomorrow's game at Millwall. The Slovenian will be sorting out the remaining red tape today and is expected to sign on the dotted line so he can make his debut at the New Den. Town manager George Burley said of his new signing: "He has a lovely left foot and is very dangerous at set plays." I think we've been needing someone like that for a while haven't we?
