Stewart and Venus Main Worries Wed 03rd May 2000 14:17
Marcus Stewart and Mark Venus are Town's main worries ahead of Sunday's crucial game with Walsall. The Town record signing is still feeling the dead-leg he received on Saturday and is still not training, but he is expected to be fit for Sunday. Venus is still having trouble with his right ankle, an injury which has affected him ever since pre-season and he will have an operation on it in the summer. Manu Thetis is also still concerned about his back injury sustained in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. He is likely to take a place on the subs' bench unless Venus misses out. His situation should become clearer as the week progresses.
Walsall to Defend Tue 02nd May 2000 12:29
Walsall manager Ray Graydon has said that he feels his side need just one point ot be sure of staying in the First Division and will be playing for a point at Portman Road on Saturday.
Injury Worries for Both Town and City Fri 28th Apr 2000 14:07
Ipswich and Manchester City both go into this weekend's vital First Division clashes with injury worries. Town are definitely missing John McGreal (ankle, not back before play-offs if required), Jonas Axeldal (knee, likely to be out for the season) and Mike Salmon (groin, needs an operation). Marcus Stewart is hoping to be back from his back spasm problem, Mark Venus will be looking for his ankle injury to improve and Manu Thetis could well be back from his back problem sustained on Tuesday against Crystal Palace. Richard Naylor is still feeling his tendinitis which will require surgery over the summer.
Bramble In? Thu 27th Apr 2000 13:59
Titus Bramble may well make his first appearance of the season in Saturday's ultra-crucial game between Town and Charlton at the Valley. With John McGreal out for the season, Mark Venus suffering with an ankle injury and now Manu Thetis having a back problem, the eighteen-year old, plagued himself with injury this season might find a place in the line-up. George Burley will want to keep playing the 5-3-2 formation which saw Town back to winning ways rather than go back to the 4-4-2 which has rarely worked for the Blues this season. Other possibilities for the third centre-half joining Tony Mowbray and Wayne Brown are Matt Holland, who might find himself dropped back from midfield or Fabian Wilnis. Holland moved into the defence when Thetis went off on Tuesday and has played there before both for Town and Bournemouth. Fabian Wilnis might find himself moved inside from right-back despite a patchy performance against Palace. Gary Croft would then get a recall. Up front Marcus Stewart may well be fit for Saturday which would allow James Scowcroft to take Holland's place in the midfield. Jermaine Wright might find himself starting if Scowcroft remains in the attack.
Reserve Squad Wed 26th Apr 2000 12:05
Town reserves meet Portsmouth reserves at Fratton Park today at 7 pm. The Town squad: James Pullen, John Kennedy, Erdum Artun, Titus Bramble, Justin Miller, Stephen Moffat, Mark Mayes, Patrice Maurel, Adam Miller, Stuart Niven, Marco Holster, Richard Naylor, Tomi Niemi, William Snowdon, Lee O'Neill and Justin Asiamah.
Holster Joins The Eagles Wed 26th Apr 2000 11:18
Town's forgotten man Marco Holster will join Go Ahead Eagles, the superbly named Dutch side, next week. Holster made only one start for Town in the first game of his first season away at Grimsby. The 28-year old Dutchman also made nine League appearances as sub and another two in cups. TWTD wishes him all the best in the future. There is not thought ot be a fee involved.
Town 1-0 Palace Wed 26th Apr 2000 11:06
Town moved to two points behind Manchester City after a David Johnson stunner was enough to beat Crystal Palace. Town switched it about from Saturday with Manu Thetis coming into a three man backline, Martijn Reuser coming into midfield and with Jamie Clapham and Fabian Wilnis as the wide men.
Reuser In, Stewart Out Tue 25th Apr 2000 13:25
Martijn Reuser is set to make his home debut this evening in Town's crunch clash with Crystal Palace. The midfield man was one of Town's more impressive players during the 3-1 defeat at QPR on Saturday when Town's inability to defend against teams trying to catch them on the break was once again shown up.
Town Linked With Belgian Fri 21st Apr 2000 18:27
Town are being linked with Anderlecht centre-half Glenn de Boeck. The 29-year old is available on a free at the end of the season and wants to play in England. Several other clubs are also linked including Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and Wimbledon. Who Town look to bring in at the end of the season will be heavily influenced by the division they are in and the fee gained for Richard Wright if he leaves. I doubt we'll see any solid movement on transfers at least until Town's season is over.
McGreal and Stewart Out Fri 21st Apr 2000 18:14
Neither John McGreal nor Marcus Stewart are included in the Town squad for tomorrow's game at QPR. McGreal's ankle injury could keep him out for the rest of the season, while Stewart will be a possibility for Tuesday's game with Crystal Palace. Town will hope that Chris Kiwomya breaks his regular habit of scoring against Town in the crucial game that could see us go second. Full squad: R Wright, Branagan, Wilnis, Stockwell, Croft, Clapham, Mowbray, Venus, Brown, Thetis, Holland, Magilton, J Wright, Scowcroft, Johnson, Reuser, Naylor, Logan and Bramble
