Town coach Tony Mowbray is set for a return to action next week when he is involved in two fundraising games for Darlington at the Reynolds Arena. The Third Division strugglers recently went into administration.

Town moved up to third in Division One with a 2-1 win over Derby but were rarely at their fluent best. Darren Bent put the Blues a goal in front in just 30 seconds and a Youl Mawene own goal increased the lead. A strange Marcus Tudgay goal reduced the arrears but Town were rarely in serious danger.

Central defender John McGreal will make his first appearance of the season against Derby on Saturday, in place of the suspended Georges Santos. McGreal, who has been injured for most of the last year, will partner Richard Naylor at the centre of the Town defence.

The midfielder had been given virtually no chance of making it due to a foot injury, but what Joe Royle calls a "Lazarus-like recovery" has brought the Northern Irishman back into contention.

Midfielder Alan Mahon will not be involved for Town at Cardiff City on Saturday. Blues' manager Joe Royle assessed the loanee on Thursday morning and says he is not yet ready for first team inclusion. Mahon is over his hamstring problem but was suffering with flu earlier in the week.

Town manager Joe Royle will include Martijn Reuser and John McGreal in his squad facing Sheffield United on Saturday, although both players are still only fit enough for places on the bench. Loanee midfielder Alan Mahon will continue to remain on the sidelines after picking up a viral infection.

Town boss Joe Royle will wait before deciding whether central defender John McGreal is fit enough to replace the suspended Richard Naylor at Derby on Saturday. McGreal, yet to feature this season, played the full 90 minutes for the reserves last night but didn't train today as a precaution.
