Town's 2008/09 season got off to the worst possible start as Preston came from behind to beat the Blues 2-1. Kevin Lisbie put Town ahead in the second minute but goals from Paul McKenna and Simon Whaley won the points for the visitors.

Former Charlton academy schoolboy Danny Haynes lashed in a brilliant second half volley to seal a 2-0 win over the Addicks at Portman Road, Owen Garvan having put the Blues in front before the break. Returning loanee Shefki Kuqi was stretched off only a few minutes into his second Town debut with a hamstring injury.

The Blues were awful in a first half in which the Addicks scored three times through Darren Ambrose (2) and Chris Iwelumo. Town improved after the break, Pablo Couñago scoring, while Alan Lee missed a penalty.

Town's preparations for Saturday's trip to Charlton have been disrupted by a flu bug which has hit several members of the squad, as well as boss Jim Magilton. Defender Fabian Wilnis, who was set to return in place of the injured Alex Bruce, and midfielder Gavin Williams are amongst those affected.
