Scales Linked With Town Tue 27th Jun 2000 11:21
Tottenham defender John Scales is being linked with a move to Town. The 33-year-old is also reportedly being tracked by Portsmouth, but a move to another Premiership side would certainly be attractive to a player who has suffered from injuries and a lack of first team football since his move from Liverpool. He has made just forty appearances for the White Hart Lane club and is available on a Bosman. Town may look to Scales to add Premiership experience to the defence.

Keegan Speaks Out on Wright Tue 28th Mar 2000 13:37
England manager Kevin Keegan has told Richard Wright that he must be playing Premiership football next season if he is to take his England career any further. Keegan was speaking prior to the England U21s play-off with Yugoslavia tomorrow in Barcelona (KO 6pm) which Wright is likely to start. If Town fail to win promotion Wright is now almost guaranteed to leave Portman Road in the close season with his price-tag the only question left to be answered. Over the years virtually all the top clubs have been rumoured to have an interest in Wright, who made his debut back in Town's days in the Premiership. Town have also been linked with keepers this season, most notably Shay Given, others mantioned include Barnet's Lee Harrison. Wright, who hopes to be part of the full squad for the European Championships in the summer, will have one year left on his current Town contract at the end of this season and Town will want to cash-in prior to his being available on a possible Bosman at the end of the 2001/2 season.

A litany of missed chances was the main reason for Town's long unbeaten run coming to an end at home to Portsmouth on Saturday. A Steve Claridge header in the first half saw the relegation threatened southerners go ahead and then successfully defend their lead.

Gary Croft and Manu Thetis are both out to prove their fitness in today'd reserve game at Oxford United. Crof has recovered far more quickly than expected from his gash sustained against Huddersfield whilst Manu is back after an ankle injury cut short the first game of his return from a hamstring problem. If they do well both could find themselves in the side for Saturday's game with Portsmouth. Croft in place of loanee Michael Clegg and Thetis in place of the injured John McGreal. Jim Magilton is definitely back in favour with the Northern Irish management. The Town midfield man has been named in the side to meet Luxembourg tonight. Magilton will be winning his fortieth cap. Jim Magilton is back in the Northern Ireland squad after more than a year out of the picture. Previous manager Lawrie McMenemy had left out Magilton along with Gerry Taggart and former Town man Danny Sonner.

Town expect to be at full fitness for the match with Swindon on Saturday. Physio Dave Williams said of those with niggles: "Tony Mowbray is OK after his dead leg, and Jim Magilton will be fine for Swindon after missing our last game at Port Vale. We have to nurse Richard Naylor through training sometimes because of his knee problems, but he came through well today."
