Town legend Paul Mariner has been appointed the head coach of MLS side Toronto FC. The 59-year-old, who was previously the club’s director of player development, takes over from former Dutch international Aron Winter, who has left by mutual consent after a start to the season which has seen them drop to the bottom of the Eastern Conference having gained just three points from 10 games.

TWTD understands that Town have renewed their interest in bringing former Academy manager Bryan Klug back to Playford Road as exiting chief Sammy Morgan’s replacement. In February, we revealed that the Blues had approached the 51-year-old about a possible return, Klug at that point deciding against leaving his current role as assistant director and head of player development at Tottenham’s Academy.

The right-back or midfielder, who also celebrates his 18th birthday today, put pen to paper on a three-year contract, the clubs having agreed a fee believed to be in the region of an initial £250,000 plus further milestone clauses.
