Town’s pre-season friendly at Colchester United was abandoned with eight minutes to go at 0-0 after U’s midfielder Andy Bond suffered a facial injury in a collision with his keeper Mark Cousins. Bond required lengthy treatment with the injury considered so severe that an ambulance was brought to the edge of the pitch causing the abandonment, with Bond eventually helped across to it with blood streaming down his face.

Town were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at League Two Southend on Friday evening despite a brilliant first half goal by Lee Martin. Paul Jewell’s men were the better side in the first half but faded badly in a second period in which Neil Harris netted an equaliser for the home side.

The former Cardiff man came on as a half-time sub, scoring his first within three minutes and the second 13 minutes from the end.

Town striker Connor Wickham has completed his move to Sunderland, signing a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light. The Blues have revealed the fee to be an initial £8.1 million rising to more than £12 million after additional clauses relating to appearances and achievements are triggered. TWTD understands that there is also a clause which will see the Blues receive a percentage of the profit from his future sale.

Town ended their season with a 4-2 defeat at Leicester City, despite a second half fightback which saw Grant Leadbitter (pen) and Connor Wickham pull the scoreline back to 3-2. Leicester were 3-0 up at the break through Andy King, Yakubu and Yuki Abe, Diomansy Kamara adding the fourth to seal the Foxes’ win.
