Town will be without Gary Roberts, Fabian Wilnis, Sylvain Legwinski and Richard Naylor for tonight's first pre-season friendly at Burton Albion (KO 7.45pm). Boss Jim Magilton is expected to use the rest of the 24-man party which travelled to Loughborough on Monday.

A tabloid report claims Birmingham City owner David Sullivan wants to buy Town. The Daily and Sunday Sport proprietor is on the verge of selling the Midlands club and is reported to want to turn his attention to the Blues.

Town are discussing playing pre-season friendlies with Oxford United, Rushden and Diamonds and Chelmsford City in addition to the matches previously reported. However, the planned Portman Road match against Spurs has been scuppered by the North Londoners making a tour of South Africa.

Boss Jim Magilton says he wants Middlesbrough defender Matt Bates to return to the club on a season-long loan. Bates joined the Blues in November and was due to spend the rest of 2006/07 at Portman Road until he damaged medial and cruciate ligaments in his second game, Town's 1-0 defeat at Barnsley.

Boss Jim Magilton was pleased with Town's first half display but less so with his team's performance after the break. Plymouth manager Ian Holloway was fuming after the game due to Mathias Doumbe's early red card and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's disallowed second half goal.

Mathias Doumbe's 78th second red card assisted Town's progress towards a 3-0 victory over Plymouth. After Doumbe's dismissal for a professional foul on Jon Walters, Owen Garvan and Alan Lee put the Blues into a comfortable lead. Late on, Danny Haynes netted a third, Town's 4,000th league goal.

Town all but cemented their Championship status for another season with a 2-0 win at Luton. Alan Lee put the Blues in front in the first half with sub Matt Richards adding the second after the break against a lacklustre Hatters side.

Dan Harding is out of Saturday's trip to Luton but Matt Richards is OK and is included in an 18-man squad. Both sustained ankle injuries in Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Preston.

Town fell to a controversial 2-0 defeat at home to Southend. Mark Gower put his side ahead with the Blues appealing for an offside and still protesting the lack of an earlier penalty award, then Peter Clarke added another from a set piece. Late on Lee was sent off for handling the ball into the net.
