Wright to Sign Thu 22nd Mar 2001 10:33
It is being reported that Richard Wright is set to sign a new deal when he returns from international duty. The Town goalkeeper's agent, Jonathan Barnett, has been in talks with the club and it seems Town have secured the services of the keeper for a longer period.
Wright Contract Talks Begin Mon 12th Mar 2001 13:17
Town and Richard Wright have begun discussing a new deal which will keep the England keeper at Town for years to come. Wright's current deal is up at the end of next season and Town are anxious to tie him down long-term.
Youths 3-2 Leicester Wed 06th Dec 2000 21:31
Town's youths proceeded to round four of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-2 win over Leicester. In truth it should have been more confortable, but Town made heavy weather against a side who were clearly inferior.
Stars Rested Tue 31st Oct 2000 11:02
Town look likely to rest a number of players when they meet Arsenal in the Worhtington Cup tomorrow. Mark Venus, James Scowcroft, Richard Naylor and Jim Magilton all missed training yesterday feeling the effects of Saturday's game with Middlesbrough. None seems to be in the 'injured' category exactly, however, George Burley has said he will not risk player in this competition. That means that Martijn Reuser, Titus Bramble and David Johnson and may all get starts against an Arsenal side likely to look very similar to the reserve side which beat the Town second string 3-0 two weeks ago.
Happy When I'm Blue Fri 06th Oct 2000 10:40
Ipswich's player of the season so far, Titus Bramble, takes the field tonight for his second England Under-21 cap. The match, to be played at Derby's Pride Park Stadium, should see a record attendance for such a game. Already 25,000 tickets have been sold, the home fans excited by the inclusion of 4 Derby players: Malcolm Christie, Adam Murray, Chris Riggott and Lee Morris.
Johnno Logan Sign On! Fri 21st Jul 2000 11:32
Both David Johnson and Richard Logan have signed four year deals with Town. Blues' fans will be most pleased to see Johnno put pen to paper as his relationship with the club has not always been as smooth as it might have been. When Town sold Alex Mathie and Danny Sonner in quick succession it was Johnson who stood up and accused the club of having no ambition. Now the striker sees things very differently: "I’m pleased to be signing a new four year contract. The Club has strong ambition and this is demonstrated by its return to the Premier League”. Manager George Burley said of the Jamaican born player: "We are very pleased David has signed a new 4 year contract. He has been our leading goalscorer for the last 3 seasons and at the age of 23, he will just keep on improving and show he is capable of scoring goals in Premiership." Logan is one of a number of promising youngsters hoping to make an impression on the first team this season. Burley said of Logan: "Richard is a youn!
Girlfriend to Make Difference for Jensen Thu 20th Jul 2000 10:59
Reports this morning suggest that Charlton are favourites in the race to sign Bolton midfielder Claus Jensen. Although claims that he had a medical at the Valley yesterday evening are being refuted it seems that the "fantastic offer" Bolton sources talked as having been made by Alan Curbishley's club are enough to take the Dane to London. However, all may not be done and dusted as Jensen is not finalising anything until his Copenhagen-based student girlfriend has been over and had a look round. So in our opinion the whole thing is up in the air, he could go to either club. Ultimately it all may depend on whether she is studying Urban Brutalism or Lovely Rural Countrysides at college.
Barnett Threatens TownJensen Latest Wed 19th Jul 2000 15:30
Richard Wright's agent Jonathan Barnett today issued a threat to the Blues: "If Richard is fully fit and does not play at Tottenham on the opening day of the season he will never sign another contract for the club". Presumably the hint is that he might sign later in the season if he feels things are going OK. In the light of Barnett's statement it seems inevitable Wright will go into the season without signing a new deal and therefore will remain on the transfer list. Barnett says no new negotiations will take place this week, contrary to George Burley earlier in the week. Barnett also claimed Wright was annoyed with the way Town reacted to his failure to sign an extension: "He thinks it is a panic move and he feels he is being treated harshly". Hands up who is getting fed up with Barnett and Wright...
Stockwell Trains with Colchester Mon 10th Jul 2000 13:39
Former Town stalwart Mick Stockwell is training with Colchester while he weighs up where he should continue his distinguished career. Colchester manager Steve Whitton has made Stockwell an offer, but the 35-year-old is going to consider this as well as other options over the next few days. Stockwell said: "I have to keep all my options open at this stage. I won't be closing any doors, and Colchester are a club in the shake-up. I'll be training at Layer Road this week. It will be a chance to regain my fitness after the break. Nothing is done and dusted yet. We’ll have to see how things work out." There will be quite a few familiar faces for Mick as Colchester these days is basically an Ipswich veterans team.
Branagan Deal Confirmed Fri 07th Jul 2000 13:21
The deal making Keith Branagan a Town player for the next two years has been confirmed. The goalkeeper agreed the contract verbally early last month, but formally signed yesterday. Branagan could well be a very important member of the squad this season if Richard Wright moves on.
