A strong Town reserves side battled to a 2-1 win over a similarly experienced Spurs side in soaking conditions at Portman Road. Darren Ambrose put the Blues ahead in the first minute with later goals from Ben Thatcher and Tommy Miller completing the scoring.

A late John McGreal headed goal gave Town the points after it had appeared that a second half Gus Poyet goal had won the visitors a point. Marcus Bent had put Town ahead in the first half of an entertaining and open game.

Town's miserable run of 15 games without a Premiership win came to an end as goals from Finidi George and Alun Armstrong deservedly beat ten-man Tottenham. George Burley will hope that this first victory since the Derby game in August will finally bump-start Town's Premiership season. With Southampton losing at Manchester United Town are now just four points from safety.
