Your Morecambe v Ipswich Town Match Reports

A long journey and a hard-working athletic team, Morecambe made it very difficult with their press but Town still dominated most of the match. However it had to be won with a very strange penalty decision. So a bit lucky in the end. Ref was the only person in the ground who thought it was a pen! But justice done. We were the better side. Some jittery defending at 1-2 and I was expecting an equaliser. We still need to continue playing our game when we are leading. If we don’t then top six rather than top two. Woolfenden looked a bit miserable in the warm-up and I don’t blame him. Keogh clearly started to enjoy the way KMK wants centre half’s to play. It’s an absolute master-stroke from McKenna to bring him in. Donacien is a centre half who can suddenly become an extra wing back, Leif has pace and needs to show it more than once in a match. But he gets better every game. Edmondson is looking good, comfortable on the ball. All our centre half’s could play in midfield.
I am so impressed with how much Morsy and Evans have improved. They are more athletic, stronger, faster compared to last year. Morsy’s control, turns and changes of pace are premiership level now. And Jackson? Yes I was not a fan, but he is looking like a real threat at this level with his pace and work rate. He just needs to work on judging the trajectory of the ball. He doesn’t always read it that well. I can see what McK is trying to do with Jackson (perhaps ‘silk purse out of a sow’s ear’ is possible!). TJJ needs to do a lot more to prove he is a prem player but Arsenal are fortunate that he is with McK. Ladapo got shoved in the back every time he got the ball and probably just needs to fall over to make the point to the ref - his marker was playing like and American football defensive lineman! Burns is still lacking confidence. He won couple of free kicks by going to ground very easily. A better ref would not have fallen for that. Burns should just stay on his feet and have a go! I don’t want to watch town players diving to con the ref. Prefer good football. Jackson and Edwards switched sides in the second half to great effect; should have tried this in the first half. The best thing about Town at the moment is the movement. If we win the ball, players move into space and make runs. Players are anticipating and reading what other players are doing. It’s almost like teamwork has returned at last!
And pies with peas and gravy made it well worth the journey.

Listeded to the commentary yesterday and just watched the match back in full. A game of two halfs! We did not play our normal fluent game in the first half however when Edwards switched to the left after they scored we definitely looked more threatening. However what a transformation in the second half. Lots of good attempts on goal and we then actually scored from a corner!! Good cross from Davis and nice finish from Edmundson. Edwards made some lovely runs and then won a penalty which sadly Chaplin could not put away. He did not have his best game. However we did not have to wait long for a second opportunity from the spot after Jackson got fouled. Over 30 games since we last got awarded a penalty and then two in the space of 15 minutes! Well taken by Evans. We held out well and deserved our win. My MOM was Keogh. Had Stockton in his pocket all game and looked really solid. Morsy was immense again and the three E’s (Edwards, Evans, and Edmundson) all had good games as did Donacian. A tricky fixture and another 3 points.

Played more like a local derby or FA Cup QF. A lot at stake for both teams. It was the expected hard task against a team with nothing to lose. Sam was outstanding and the Fridge's goal was unexpected but happy to score. Think Morecombe were better than Plymouth on the day. Grinding out results brings silverware so more of it please.
