| News Comment | Leicester Thrash Saints to Go Four Points Clear at 23:06:39
Nothing has really changed. We still have our destiny in our own hands. We've spent a season high-performing. All that effort and hard work has come down to just three games. The players have had extra rest, physically and mentally, and come into these last three games knowing that if they play to the level they have generally performed at since August, they will be promoted to the Premier League. The task is black and white. |
| News Comment | Morsy: Our Biggest Strength Has Been How We Bounce Back at 22:34:08
There are still enough points to gain in the remaining games to get automatic promotion. I get that a victory against Norwich is important to the fans but in reality it is still only worth 3 pts if you win. Look forward, not back. You can't change what has happened. Still all to play for. |
| News Comment | Martin: We Were the Best Team, We Didn't Deserve to Lose at 23:13:19
Martin. This isn't ice dancing. You don't get points for style, nor do you get what you believe you deserve. You get points for not being beaten and even more points for legally getting the ball in the net more times than the opposition. The rules are quite simple really. |
| News Comment | Former Town Striker Wickham Joins Charlton at 11:00:55
Sears main weapon was his acceleration and pace. that was never going to improve with age and injuries. Always thought Wickham was overrated. He was just an early developer to my mind and got overtaken as he got older. |
| News Comment | McKenna: Credit to Maidstone, a Horrible Game to Lose at 16:23:46
It takes a trip down towards the end of the comments it seems to find the first criticism of the tactics. KM got it wrong and the worrying thing is he doesn't appear to recognise that. How do non-league and lowly teams beat higher placed teams generally in cup games? By playing a packed defence and relying on swift counter attacks. All we did was batter away at a dense defence hoping for a lucky deflection. Meanwhile, our defence was too high and were undone by pace on the counter. That was not down to the players but the tactics. We didn't even change when we equalised and were back in command of the game. We needed to give Maidstone more room and confidence to play out to create the space that Sarmiento and Hutchinson could use to spring quick attacks on their own. It's no coincidence that Leeds have beaten us convincingly twice by using quick counter attacking football. One style of football, however attractive, cannot be deployed against every opponent. Has the lesson really been learnt yet? |
| News Comment | Town Targeting Wimbledon Striker Al-Hamadi at 14:26:04
Perhaps he is wanted as a player who can hold the ball up front to help bring the midfield and wingmen into play more, rather than as an out-and-out goalscorer (though goals are always welcome!). If he is a handful he'd help create the space for others to score - hopefully! |
| News Comment | Town to Reveal Third Kit Tonight at 13:33:39
Kiffer1 - Yellow and blue reflecting the colours of the Ipswich Town badge until some numpty changed that to red and blue. I blame a fifth columnist from Martlesham for that because BT changed from yellow and blue corporate colours to red and blue too for their logo! |
| News Comment | Burgess Wins Cap as Socceroos Beaten at Wembley at 11:03:16
Nomore4 and SpiritofJohn - I think it is unfair to generally pick out any players as uninspiring in the England team as it isn't the choice of personnel but the sheer lack of urgency the team always display, no matter who plays, which is always the problem. That's down to the strategy of the coaching staff. The opposition are always allowed plenty of time to reset, which is completely baffling. Yet another very dull game - have to agree with Fat_Boy_Tim. Good experience for Burgess though. |
| News Comment | Nine Subs On Bench in Championship at 18:59:30
Don't understand all this nonsense about substitutes. All it does is devalue stamina as an attribute, in my opinion. We are always told that the players of today are much fitter than those of yesteryear. Well, give them a chance to prove it! |
| News Comment | Referee Changed For Charlton Match at 09:40:56
As Sheffield is historically in the West Riding we could have yet another Sheffield Wednesday loving ref on our hands or a Sheff. Wed hating one, so I'm not sure a lot has improved, based on the information above. |
| News Comment | Aluko: Teams Have Been Promoted From Worse Positions Than We're In at 11:52:27
Sone, I realise you are only fulfilling your media obligations but no one needs to keep hearing the optimistic outpourings. They only bring out more cynicism. Just get you and your team mates to concentrate on doing the business on the pitch instead of continually giving us the "there was jam yesterday, jam tomorrow but unfortunately no jam today" spiel. Get someone to analyse why things have gone wrong. The fans can see why so why is it so hard for the management? Having attempts at goal in double figures with no score is enough to show what is wrong. This is Div One you are playing in. There are no points for style, only for substance. Look at videos of England to see why what the team is trying to do doesn't ultimately work . It isn't rocket science. |
| News Comment | Bristol Rovers 0-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 22:49:52
Sad to say, it strikes me that McKenna is a similar manager to Southgate. Very good speaker who handles conferences and the media very well, but totally one-dimensional tactically on the pitch. Both are poor at using subs and have teams that are excruciatingly slow in getting the ball from back to front quickly, giving the opposition time to set all too often. 21 attempts on goal count for nothing if only 7 are on target. Other than that, I agree with many on here that another major factor may be the lack of fielding a settled side. |
