 | Forum Reply | Does the level of academy talent in the squad in recent years worry you? at 18:22 20 Jul 2025
Important to consider what’s in the academy now. The club doesn’t promote content from the academy in the way that others do, but that’s not to say we don’t have a raft of talent in the younger ages, taking into account the investment that’s gone into recruitment especially at the younger ages. We don’t know how our age groups compete with current cat 1s and all people can do is come to an assumption without actually knowing? |

It’s something that’s always going to be there, they’re always going to look to recruit from Suffolk as it’s within their catchment. No different to us going into Colchester, Essex and E London etc. Though the link has been set up by Jake Swan, who’s part of their Academy Recruitment team. |

I would somewhat disagree. How do you know that the best local lads aren’t at Ipswich at the younger ages compared to those at Norwich? Also, those that are at Norwich, how do you know they haven’t been seen by our Academy? |

U6 - U11 distance rules sit at 1 hour 15 mins. This would be the same for us whether cat 1/2/3 |

Some of the replies to this are pretty embarrassing. I get the annoyance at it but wishing injuries on young lads is pretty damning really especially as most will be Suffolk boys. |

Having read the Dean Wright interview, where he discusses other clubs operating in the areas, a question that I would ask would be why highlight the opportunities available to people in terms of other clubs operating in Suffolk. I’d also question why such development centres aren’t used as a recruitment tool for the academy as there are some very talented boys in the local development centres that operate in the area. A good move for the academy too would be to rebuild a scouting network in Suffolk |

Decent articles/interview with Dean Wright. Good to see the academy is now becoming part of the clubs focus too. Some good people being brought in too in regard rebuilding the structure within the academy and actually having someone responsible for the recruitment of academy players. Be interesting to see how this impacts local programmes in the area.. |

Completely agree on second paragraph. It’s a platform for people that just rant and rave. They all come across as self righteous individuals and the usual “it’s all about opinions” if they’re proven wrong. Classless |

Does that have to be communicated to the players, that they might be left out of the upcoming game, but they’ll be involved in the next one? “You try and give them dialogue most times. You can’t do everybody, there are too many players.” At least give your squad the time of day. |

Rarely post on here and login but sometimes need to just air... The stats are damning and there’s no point going over what other people post but how there’s no change or incoming change is baffling. For a time when we’re in a pandemic and not allowed in the ground, fans shrugged off as negative, the club is so out of touch, it’s simply embarrassing. A debate can be held on Evans ownership but that’s not going to change, the only hope is a roll of the dice in a management appointment but this feels so far off. It’s not hard to see the Blackpool result and performance wasn’t sustainable, they where very poor. It’s the same old story of coming up against a side that’s set up better and know what’s expected of them. Darren Ferguson was re-appointed in January 2019, 2 months after Lambert. The stark difference is staggering |

It’s actually quite laughable a professional club/manager comes out with this. Also in recent weeks how Klug emphasised the importance of learning different ways to win football matches and different ways of playing, surely all is not ok at the training ground. Talk of playing the same way through the club, it seems academy and first team couldn’t be further apart. |

I got one. I’m on twitter and very vocal towards the club in wanting lambert out 🤷â€â™‚ï¸ |

Be interested to know Dyer’s thoughts on this, especially as he now manages the U23s and will be in close contact with these ‘younger’ players. Speaks about this in his book and when on the true geordie podcast, a time when playing for Newcastle he stuck up for young players and had a go at Sir Bobby’s assistant for digging them out and told him to start digging out the senior pros. Sir Bobby then stuck his arm around him and said he was right but needed to be addressed in a different way. |

What exactly is this based on? Have you not seen his record? Lost 42 of 97 games is enough on its own |
