Marvin Johnson - Wednesday fans reaction
at 10:05 7 Mar 2023

All football fans are delusional and blinkered when it comes to their club.

For instance, very few on here have mentioned that it shouldn’t have been a penalty.

If the officials had seen the whole incident properly, the correct decision would clearly have been a free kick to Wednesday, a yellow card to Burns for deliberately pulling back an opponent and then a red card to Johnson for retaliation.

Definitely Town. But I will admit that I have a very firm foot in the other camp too.

My Dad is the biggest Wednesday fan going. But my Mum is from Lowestoft and supports Ipswich so my Mum and Grandad won that one with me.

It was the fact that Harness was clearly told not to and then continued to do it that made it differ from the other end.

I just cannot look at yesterdays match and feel that we were hard done by with the officiating. If we are classing that as hard done by then we really are an extremely fragile bunch.

They were just a bit more experienced and street wise than us and they created the best chances of the match. We scored a Worldie 1 in 20 free kick and got a fortunate deflection. We also missed a penalty which is not bad luck it’s bad play. We certainly weren’t hard done by.

What a weird, annoying, entertaining game that was?

I pretty much agree with all you say.

Too many of our fans are blinded by our possession stats etc. Mamy have said they weren’t impressed with Wednesday but like you I beg to differ.

In terms of chances created yesterday, I think the best ones were nearly all for Wednesday. Discounting the penalty I’d say in order of when they happened the best chances of the match were:-

Smith when 0-0
Smith goal
Byers goal
Smith straight after 2nd goal when he really should’ve finished us off.
Flint near the end.

Which chances did we create on a par with those? Maybe Ladapo?

Blatant “deliberately lacking in subtlety and very obvious”.

Hardly anybody in the whole ground saw it.

So no, I don’t think it was blatant.

I think that we were fortunate that one of the few people in the whole ground to see it was a linesman that resulted in the awarding of the penalty.

You seem to think that we were unlucky that despite one of the few people in the ground to see it being one of the officials, they didn’t also get a red card.

As stated above, a penalty could easily have been awarded against Harness.

You are one eyed.

It wasn’t the most blatant penalty and red card you are ever like to see though was it?

I’m enjoying that you think the most blatant penalty you are ever likely to see was missed by nearly every single person in the stadium.

Paranoia is rife on here.

So you are actually claiming that we were hard done by the officials yesterday?

Is that what you are really claiming?

Wednesday cheated 4 points from us this season

I’m talking about the reasons for their defensive record against ours throughout the season.

We moan that we are too soft and easily give leads away.

Then you all see Wednesday come here, prepared to time waste, get in the referees ear, kick and foul when required and you moan about them “cheating”.

They are showing the levels of gamesmanship that good teams have. They were here to get the job done, not to make friends or look good.

They’re more experienced but we need a bit more of that. Not being so naive as to moan about a team doing it right.

Apart from the soft free kick Broadhead scored from.

There really is a genuine feel of being the victims around our supporter base which is just an absolute load of tosh.

Regardless of whether it was a pen or not - 9/10 you’re not getting that and yet we did. But still manage to talk ourselves into thinking we’ve been hard done by.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

It’s called game management.

All good teams do it.

It’s not Wednesdays fault that we can’t defend and they can.

Sheff Wed didn’t look particularly impressive for a side that were top…
at 09:06 12 Feb 2023

Our 2 goals were a spectacular inch perfect free kick and a deflected free kick.

According to some on this forum, the second half was the best we’ve played this season.

Whilst playing the best we’ve played this season we couldn’t break them down from open play.

Yet Wednesday didn’t look very good and we can’t see how they’ve let in so few goals.

Either delusion is high or logic is lacking.

We controlled that game today

Some of the delusion on here is cringeworthy.

We needed two direct free kicks to score against them. They defended resolutely and showed why they’ve been so good defensively.

They scored twice from open play and arguably the best two other chances of the match fell to Smith and Flint. Smith certainly should’ve made it 3-0.

Wednesday have demanded a meeting with refs
at 10:45 11 Feb 2023

To be fair to Wednesday you can see their point :-)

Having a goal disallowed 57 seconds after it went in, through the refs using VAR in a league with no VAR is quite an achievement.

And how many of our defenders have managed 80 Championship appearances?

Let alone by 22.

Maybe not individually, however - The Wednesday XI, like most teams doing well, currently has a great balance to it!

All of their back three are physically strong. I know Flint is a new addition but he’s in the middle and at 6’5” is probably as strong as anybody in the division in the air. Furthermore, either side of him, Famewo and Iorfa are two of the fastest defenders. So they’re not vulnerable in the air and they’re not vulnerable to pace - which probably explains why they’ve only conceded 18 goals all season.

Palmer and Johnson at wing back have played nearly all their career in The Championship but at 31 & 32 haven’t yet lost their legs.

Vaulks is another 6 footer that protects the defence. Byers and Bannan provide the guile (and both score goals).

Upfront they have the creativity of Windass and big target man in Smith.

Also, they know what their best XI is, this only happens in teams doing well that have struck a great balance.

So whilst individually, you may not swap their XI, do not underestimate their TEAM.

True, but if Wednesday score first they’re a nightmare.

They’ve not lost yet when they’ve scored first. Winning 17 and drawing 3.

Shots and Goals - For and Against
at 11:17 9 Feb 2023

The luck argument can be used in a one off match.

But to use it over the course of a 46 match season makes it delusion.

If it takes more shots to score than other teams it’s because the finishing isn’t as good as others.

If it takes other teams less shots to score then the goalkeeping or concentration isn’t as good.

Wednesday have kept 17 clean sheets in 28 league matches. That’s not because they’ve had more luck! It’s because they’ve consistently done the right things!

CPS drop charges against Mason Greenwood

Mob rule is never a good thing.

Whether through a crowd with pitchforks or todays equivalent of social media pile on’s.

Law and Order brings civilised society.

As soon as we move from that, we go down an unpalatable route where innocent people become sacrificial lambs.

Charges being dropped isn’t the same as being found not guilty.

But if the charges are dropped a person can’t possibly be found not guilty even if he is innocent.

So it doesn’t change it in my opinion. A person is found guilty or they are not.

It can’t be right for society to act as judge and jury and decide who can and who cannot earn a living.
