McKenna: Cajuste is a Player We Like a Lot
at 11:39:01

I thought we had an option to buy if we went down, and an obligation to buy if we stayed up, so says it would be more about personal terms and determining if we can buy a £10m midfielder as a Championship club (you'd hope so with parachute payments) than whether Napoli would consider selling him. I'd have him back in a heartbeat...

Delap Release Clause £30m
at 09:11:00

Given two choices:

1 - sign and enjoy Delap this season and accept a £30m release clause; or,
2 - not include it, watch someone else include it and sign him, and he bangs in 12 goals for someone else this year...

Which would you have preferred? If we let the deal slip based on not including this, we'd all be moaning saying "we needed a forward, should have included it, could have had a great young striker who might have kept us up, and c£10m of profit we've let go too"... so Ashton is damned if he did, and damned if he didn't.

Also sounds like the release clause is normally £40m, but it's only £30m because of relegation.

Glasner Confirms Mateta Will Miss Town Game
at 16:06:15

Roberts now banned for six games for the high boot. At least it gives some comfort Cunha will be out for a long, long, long time if six games is the benchmark for bad behaviour.

McKenna on Cunha Charge: My First No Comment in Three Years
at 16:04:29

Millwall keeper banned for six games for his Mateta challenge (where he gets the ball first) so Cunha's second violent outburst in the space of a few months has to be a minimum of six. Good news for us that we won't have to face him at PR. COYB

FA Charge Wolves Forward Cunha
at 08:59:12

The FA will want him nicely rested for when he comes to Portman Road, so imagine it'll just be three games with some nonsense about how he said he will be a good boy from now on and won't do it again. Shame for Wolves fans that this thug is the face of your team and star player. Probably why Arsenal and others didn't go for him in January despite being desperate for a forward. Let's hope if he is back for 5th April, one of the Town players gives him some proper justice. Six months out after a 'mistimed' tackle should do nicely.

Ipswich Town 1-4 Tottenham Hotspur - Match Report
at 11:13:44

I sense I'm the rare part of the Venn diagram that thinks we're getting relegated but is also pretty positive about it all. Nobody would have expected us to go up last season, so next year when we're in the Championship (where two years ago we thought we would be) we've got a group of players who proved last year they're good enough to get out that league but with the experience that comes from playing at the highest level for a season, and some extra bodies on top who are better than what we've let go since going up.

I don't see how Hladky, Donacien, Edmundson, Dom Ball, Ladapo and Kayden Jackson (I'm ignoring loanees) as those who've left are any better than what we've bought this season?

Palmer = Hladky
Johnson at least = Donacien
O'Shea > Edmundson
Greaves at least = Edmundson
Townsend > Ball
Midfield I'll concede we're reliant on loanees - we need 2x CM!
Szmodics > Ladapo (I'm guessing Delap goes in the summer)
Ogbene/Clarke at least = Kayden Jackson

So overall we've got the same nucleus of players, plus experience, plus some internationals (Ogbene, O'Shea) and some loanees coming back like Humphreys with a point to prove... plus a huge amount of parachute money and whatever we get for Delap.

My concern is if we keep Kieran - he seems to have been the reason so many of these players have come to Town in the first place. I worry that if he goes, we may struggle to attract the talent and whoever comes in as the new manager guts the team and starts again and puts us back three years...

Oliver to Referee at Portman Road
at 09:17:00

never understood this. players miss penalties, misplace passes, let a shot go through their hands, score own goals etc etc all the time - these are "mistakes" which happen in sport. yet if a referee, also a human being, makes even the smallest error, they get death threats? that is just ridiculous and hope he and his family are OK

Al-Hamadi Stoke Loan Agreed and Medical Passed
at 14:26:59

He was unfortunately only in the 25 while Hirst was out. We don't need all three of Hirst, Delap and AAH with so many number 10s playing behind the striker. Would rather use a spot for Philogene or Enciso than AAH but he may still yet come back a changed young man at the end of the year and make a huge impact, whichever division we are in.

Ipswich Town 0-6 Manchester City - Match Report
at 10:33:33

What did we really expect? Lost to Man City - we would have envisaged that at the start of the season so no points dropped vs what we would have all expected. Equally Liverpool is a free hit. Protect the goal difference, avoid injuries, move on. Southampton the big one. Win that and the games start to get a little less daunting too. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man C and Liverpool in the last three weeks. Doesn't get much trickier than that!

O'Shea: It Was Reckless, He Was Just Leaving One On Him
at 11:27:39

I recognise that times change, but look up van Persie's red card vs Stoke back in the day. Maybe 2008? Stoke keeper (Sorensen??) deliberately baits him to go for the ball, he does, makes contact with less force than Pedro. Immediate red card.

If the game has got softer since then, and I think we all agree it has, then how is that straight red then downgraded to only a yellow today? Make it make sense.

Town Turn Down Boro Edmundson Bid
at 17:03:10

maybe we just don't think Boro will go up, so £350k if they do is of little/no value to us. Call it £600k now rather than £700k if they go up and I think that's a good bit of business. We won't extend his deal which is a shame as a good servant of the club who for some of his faults, I always liked, so the reality is we may as well get something for him. Intent probably still to sell him, but just wanting to squeeze a little more out the deal.

McKenna: No News on Philogene

@Hatman - I thought this when I saw their interest in Malen. But if that's the case, I'd be inclined to charge Villa a late fee. Knock our bid down to the £18m they're paying Dortmund for wasting our time :)

McKenna: No News on Philogene
at 13:49:45

Given how quickly some of the other deals we've done historically have come together, I'm surprised that this is again taking so long. We must really want him to still be entertaining this, but without knowing the facts, I'd be happy to walk away from this one and pursue other things. I wonder if his agent or whoever is holding this up knows how much this is damaging the kid's reputation, probably through absolutely no fault of his own.

Wednesday Eyeing Clarke
at 09:05:55

Both Woolf and Clarke are only 26 and 23 respectively so can be assets for us longer term still, whichever league we're in, so hopefully not permanent moves unless it's for big money (if someone offers £10m+ for either player, despite the sentimental nature of it, I'd personally bite their hand off) and on the basis that that's money we need to reinforce the current team especially if Philogene is another £20m invested. Still think a striker to back up Delap is on Ashton's shopping list, and if £10m+ from selling Harry gets us that, then I would say it is worth it.

In McKenna/Ashton We Trust.

Wolves Forward Cunha Charged By FA
at 17:08:09

...on topic of Delap's fifth yellow in the aftermath, I'm ok with him getting a card there and missing the Newcastle game to 'reset' his yellow card counter now rather than pick up a 5th yellow at Chelsea and miss one of the more winnable January games.

Realistically Arsenal away isn't a game we're expecting to get anything out of, so by the same token I'm OK with both Morsy and Omari picking up a 5th yellow in the Newcastle game this Saturday, missing Arsenal, and then being back for Chelsea and beyond, unless they both know they can avoid a card for the next three games.

After the Chelsea game, the 5 yellow ban disappears and it becomes 10 yellows in the first 32 games before a two game ban. So either be really disciplined, or be 'clever' about when you get the fifth card...

Wolves Forward Cunha Charged By FA

Let's not forget the elbow to the back of the same ITFC staff member's head before he grabbed his face. "Violent conduct" (Jack Stephens pulling Cucurella's hair) is a straight red and therefore a 3 match ban, so it'll have to be AT LEAST 3 games. Equally Bentancur got 7 games for Tottenham for racial slurs, so I'd reckon this would be somewhere in the middle - 5 game ban, and Wolves warned about future conduct given this is the second game in a row there's been a full time scuffle with them involved.

Boro Striker's Agent Expecting Something to Happen in January
at 09:13:20

this to me won't be the difference between staying up or not. when we missed out on Broja everyone was up in arms and he's played just twice and not scored all season. equally I don't think missing out on this guy has been that big a problem (despite our lack of frontman options). Granted though, if Delap is injured long term, certainly before Hirst is back (and even then there's questions if he can lead the line on his own in the Prem) then we're a little stuck, so definitely need a solid reinforcement. Sell the flops Jack Clarke and Muric, recoup anything we can for the pair of them, and invest it in a top but realistic forward.

McKenna: No New Significant Injuries But Illness in Camp
at 15:24:57

@WaltonBlueNaze - maybe KP is a bit like Al Hamadi last year - he's "injured" and wouldn't be playing if it were the offseason, but it's a manageable enough ailment that he can still come off the bench if we need him, rather than completely ruled out like Tuanzebe or Ogbene. Just a thought and I could well be wrong.

McKenna: A Devastated Dressing Room
at 14:00:35

Those seriously bemoaning McKenna and our transfer policy - I think to say we're not better now on paper than at the end of last season is a bit harsh.

Delap >>>> Kayden Jackson
Muric = Hladky (don't forget he was error prone a fair few times last year...)
Cajuste >> Humphreys
B Johnson > Donacien
Phillips >> Dom Ball
Szmodics > Harness (1 goal and 1 assist in 14 for Derby while out on loan...)
O'Shea/Greaves both >> Edmundson (who couldn't get in the team last year anyway)

Yes, without Hirst, Tuanzebe, Ogbene and others our squad is thin and light on PL experience, but unless we want to spend £30m+ on individual players we weren't going to get established PL quality coming to Ipswich, as harsh as that sounds. We also couldn't chuck £30m-£40m on one player, knowing we had about 10-15 players to buy across the pitch.

It's tough but we maybe didn't realise just how big the step up to this league was. Got to keep the faith otherwise we might as well pack up and go home now.
