I think it's the manner of the defeats, with bad goals being conceded at one end and lack of firepower at the other the concern Because of the way we started last season and the relatively low-key pre-season any dip in form was always going to trigger these kind of discussions, Keane's attempts to get us back on track and the number of changes game to game that go with it only add to the feeling of frustration You're right we could win the league still but also a few defeats could leave us close to the bottom, in some ways the team are a victim of their own good start to the campiagn, with a false position of 'everything's now sorted' washing over some people However, rightly or wrongly if you do lose 3 games on the bounce the football public start to bay for blood, just ask Gordon Strachan..... |

This has finally forced me to write! As we enter the 'will he or won't he go' period of this season you can't really have too much sympathy for RK. I like nearly all other town fans were buoyant when we learned he was the replacement for Jim Magilton back then Next came the headline capturing comment of hoping to secure promotion in just one season, closely followed by comments about ex team-mates mangerial failings We really should have taken note as the whole Keane era has been headline grabbing comments and contradictions. The sceptic in me wonders if his appointment was made to take the focus away from the 'job' that Evans & Clegg have been doing behind the scenes. I was never a great Sheepshanks fan but feel that he did have the club at heart whereas it is purely a financial deal for Evans and a highly paid job for Clegg Keane has made some bad signings (Martin & Priskin), been left with some dodgy Jim signings (Lisbie, Counago,Quinn etc...) and only really flourished when delving into the loan market Similar to Jim's inability to sign a ball player like himself, RK has also fell short here and has also substitued 'runners' such as Norris & Leadbitter for real influential midfield generals who boss the game like he used to We have full-backs who are either out of position centre backs or deep midfield players and almost too many of the same sort of midfield options Up-front we have a proven goalscorer in Scotland who too many times is left to battle alone up front, whenever Priskin looks to be improving he his either taken off or not involved in the next game and then we have the jewel in Wickham who has not really delivered to the hype and is getting a worrying tendency to pick up bookings Despite my negativity I would like nothing more than RK to get us through this bad spell and out the other side. Colbeck, Fulop, Kennedy, Townsend look good acquisitions and Smith and McAuley are fairly dependable Keane's arguement could be that if they were willing to invest so heavily in getting him here in the first place, they haven't really followed it through on the purse strings with real financial clout The next few games will shape Keane's future but I dread to think who Evans & Clegg (both non-football people really) will seek to employ as his successor if the axe does fall One thing is for certain all blues fans deserve much more at the moment and even the most die-hard of us must feel anxious as to what the future brings |
