Back to front season??
at 17:55 26 Jul 2021

Interested to know what people think. Usually we start like a train and struggle after Christmas. Will this season be the reverse? New players taking time to gel and getting stronger as the season progresses. No doubt if we struggle in the first few games there will pressure on Cook.

Struggling since Jan
at 10:47 8 Mar 2020

For as long as I can remember we’ve been shocking in the second half of the season. Seem to do OK until Christmas (last season aside) and then slide dangerously afterwards. I hoped that things might change this year given a bloated squad and lower level football but seems to be the same thing. Is it fitness? Is it mental fatigue? Do other teams raise their level? Either way - still looking forward to Bristol Rovers!

Help needed - I-Follow
at 19:37 20 Aug 2019

Hope someone can help me. I've just signed up to watch the match tonight but whenever I click on the watch now button - it takes me to try and buy another match pass.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to use the app?

Seems an accurate reflection...
at 17:37 27 Apr 2019

20 minutes in...
Chambers having a shocker. Nsiala error prone. Keane injured and Jackson getting nowhere near long balls forward and passing which is both risky and inaccurate. Only Bishop looking up to Championship standard.

I enjoyed the Sky comment that the actual improvement under Lambert is less than 0.01 points per game!

Can’t wait for the season to be over!

Build for next year...
at 18:01 2 Mar 2019

Leave out the loanees - unless Judge and Keane are going to sign (can’t see it myself). Play the players who are going to be around - ironically, Hurst’s signings. Can’t see Bart, Chambers, Skuse, etc fancying league 1 - and the others left from last year will probably leave when their injuries clear up.

I also worry that Dozzell, Bishop, Downes, Emanuel may feel that they are better than 3rd tier football.

Playing to our weakness...

We all wanted passing football - but insisting on it seems to be playing to one of the weakest parts of our squad. Trouble is - not sure what strengths there are to build anything else around?

Our Wigan moment?
at 21:30 6 Oct 2018

Shrewsbury fans pin-pointed an away day at Wigan (who were flying at the time) as the moment their struggling team started to fire - see Harry from Bath’s excellent report. Today has that sort of feel to me. Paul Hurst has an excellent record - and has proved he can develop players rather than buy success with his previous clubs. I think you can see the system is starting to bed in and today will help the players believe in it - keep the faith.

Jordan Graham - no risk pick...
at 04:37 15 Sep 2018

If we’re getting nothing from Ward, Sears, Harrison, Edun?, in that role - what is there to lose by picking Graham? His set pieces looked our most likely source of a goal for long periods vs scum.

Emyr Huws - he turned out to be pretty decent for us that year. Give Pennington a chance!!

Perspective...?
at 12:15 26 Aug 2018

After 5 games last season, Town were in the automatic promotion positions. We ended up 16th with 55 points.

After 5 games this season we are rock bottom of the league. Just as I didn’t expect us to get automatic promotion last year - I don’t expect us to get relegated this year. It’s 5 games and 3 weeks in... give the team a chance! It’s clear what they are trying to build - and change is always messy. If we are trying to build something - rather than merely survive in the league - we need to keep focused on the end result rather than throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I love what Paul Hurst is trying to do - I can see a future in it - and while it’s not fun right now to see my team losing, I’ve seen enough to believe the future will be brighter.

Clunk - Click
at 18:15 15 Aug 2018

I was so excited by yesterday’s game - but left it really confused. They tried hard, and were desperately wanting to play pass and move football - but it was incredibly clunky!

For what it’s worth - here are my thoughts...

Nobody seemed to communicate with anyone else, two players in each other’s space a lot of the time, not sure where to run off the ball, not sure where to play the ball when they had it, numerous occasions when it was freely passed out of play due to confusion or poor passing! Paul Hurst said it was pedestrian, and it was, but my take is that was because the system was bloody confused. It certainly wasn’t easy for me to see what the pattern of play was, or a game plan for unlocking the defence. We pushed plenty of men forward - often too many as the wing backs were caught out several times - but there didn’t seem to be an understood plan.

Edun caught the eye - but he is really not a central midfield playmaker. Chalobah covered a lot of ground and looked classy - but needs to speed things up considerably when he is faced with a decision. The game rather passed Nolan by. Sears flattered to deceive - as did Ward. Knudsen and Donacien flogged themselves on the wing - never stopped running - but due to poor passing were often caught in no-mans-land when defending. I am still to be convinced by Spence and he was functional without impressing. Nsiala looked good (if basic) and Chambers had a stinker...again I think in part because him and Nsiala do not currently have a clue what the other is going to do. Bart wasn’t even sure where to pass the ball. Jackson did well with little support, Rowe was very direct and it was just nice to see Bishop our playing again.

I believe that all of the players looked good enough - just need time to get to know each other and a lot of patience before it begins to click. I think someone like Bishop or Huws (if we can get them fit) could be the missing link that helps us click. It will come, and it was nice (albeit weird) to see a Town team pass the ball from back to front.

Keep the faith!!

HUMDINGER!!
at 13:34 14 Aug 2018

Can not wait for tonight!! Two front-foot teams - new manager - new players! Shame that Dozzell and Edwards won’t be part of it, but so refreshing that it won’t be the percentage based drudgery of the last few years.

Being based in Cornwall I don’t get to many games, but cannot remember the last match I saw and would say we played well in. Come on!!

An exercise in trust
at 20:10 27 Jun 2018

As a fan base we are going to have to show real trust in Paul Hurst’s ability to find unknown gems. I can’t help feeling that if Town had been in for the players mentioned this week (players released from Crawley / Colchester) under McCarthy we’d have questioned his sanity.

There is nothing wrong with picking these lower league players up - but us fans have got to show trust and patience to allow them time to show their as yet unfulfilled potential. Exciting times or a dangerous experiment??

Looking for positives
at 20:17 18 Mar 2017

First game in a year today and there weren't many positives at all, but if I was pushed...
Skuse saved us on numerous occasions today, could easily have been a cricket score without him.
Chambers was as committed as ever.
Rowe and Sears made a difference when they came on for ten minutes or so
Lawrence will be our saviour this year - but you could see he was passed off with busting a gut in a team which can't string more than three passes together!

It was shocking! Just hope we can scramble safe from relegation - but it's going to be tight!

First game for a year today...
at 20:04 18 Mar 2017

I made the trip from Cornwall to Cardiff today to watch us and I'm shocked. I've read all of the forum posts about how bad we've been in recent weeks but seeing it for myself was a bit of a kick in the teeth.

In summary, no energy, no passion, no pressing, no plan. We can't rely on Lawrence to dig us out of every hole, and in the second half we put him on the wing until Sears came on, which completely nullified our only threat. I thought we looked like a beaten team long before Cardiff scored their goals. I'm not sure what Spence adds to the team but it certainly isn't defensive solidity!!

Our team is full of ageing journeymen and it shows! The worst part was at half time talking to regular away fans who said it had been pretty good up until then!! I know we were drawing but Cardiff had been dominating for the whole 45!! Depressing times - hopefully we'll get another 4/5 points and be safe.
