This is from the BBC too - want to point out to me in which year on that graph 50,000 people crossed the channel in small boats?

I doubt very much it will keep them happy; for most of them, it's not about how the asylum seekers get here, but the fact that they are coming over at all (and under this scheme, it will potentially allow in the same number as have been crossing illegally)

The only real winners from small boat crossings are the people smugglers, so at least if word spreads that if you make a crossing you'll just be returned to France within a few weeks, these people will be less inclined to give them their money and put their lives at risk.

But we do now have a system in place to do that with the help of the French (which we haven't had since we left the EU)

"In return, it was agreed that the UK will accept an equal number of asylum seekers who have not tried to cross and can pass security and eligibility checks."

Where have you got 50,000 from? From what I recall, peaked at around 45,000 in 2022 and no other year has come close to that (although we're at around 30,000 so far this year, as the smugglers have had weather on their side)

Doesn't help the argument of people pushing for the stop of small boat crossings if you're just going to pull a random number out of your arse.

Your upvote for getting it in one guess is cancelled out by the downvote for the use of Budgie colours

Never any excuse to confuse a Moorhen for a Coot...as the song goes:

When the beak
and the front
Of the head
are bright red
That's...a Moorhen

(Thanks to Alex Horne for that one)

Few on here know that I rescue waterbirds for a sanctuary, so end up spending a bit too much time around them; I'll never get bored of feeding Canadas / Greylags, and watching one of them getting themselves a better position to eat by sneaking up behind another and biting them on the arse.

French cheese, innit...would have to be flown into the country, as if it came over by boat they'd want it sent back

Akpom can defintely play as a 9...Szmodics can too, and I hope we see him get a chance to play there at some point when we're up against a low block, as I think his clever movement and ability to get shots off quickly could help us unlock those defences.

Sindre has played a few games as a 9 too, but seems targeted for the right wing role.

Bit of a contrast between Furlong's performance and one of our right back options from last season, Godfrey...can see why he ended up not playing many games for us; Jaden absolutely tore him up, and got muscled off the ball by Jack Clarke for his goal too...

Don't think anyone would take issue with it being discussed on the forum; just seems a bit weird and irrelevant to bring it up on a thread comparing the reaction to the assassination of 2 figures from opposite sides of US politics.

As mentioned elsewhere, the murder seems to be have been a random attack carried out by someone with mental health issues, with no mention of political motivation behind it.
