My frustration is with the way we play and that comes down to one man.
We have two options when we regain possession (inevitably) in the 18 yard box, we either have Morsey drop in and pick the ball up or we launch it long neither of which we execute in a way to make it a winning play.
When we go to Morsy, the centre backs pull out to make room but our full backs are often behind Morsy as well so he turns and looks to play forward but he has only 5 players ahead of him and (often) 9 of the opposition team. Playing a flat back 4 even in possession is killing us but it's not as bad as when we go long.
If Shrewsbury want 3 points at Portman next weekend they need to do one thing only -scour the first team reserves and youth sides for anyone taller than about 6'3 and win 80% of possession. 70% of the time we go long off Hladky, Burgess, Edmondson or the full backs and 80% of that time the opposition team have a height advantage, win a competitive header and we're defending again with the opposition having all the momentum.
With the squad we have we should be holding 60-70% possession in a game, opposition like Accrington or Cheltenham shouldn't have enough possession to be a threat to us, instead we watch meandering lumps wander around the pitch under no pressure until they get a chance.
This is a squad that on paper should be competitive in the Championship but we're barely competitive vs the sides that have come up from league 2 and are expected to be bounced.
I don't see how you spend that much money to serve up such unwatchable trash at a glorified pub league level and keep your job.
