McKenna always told me be careful of this one He'll go around breaking Norwich hearts McKenna always told me you're gonna fall in love When you see him on the ball His feet just move so fast
Philogene is the one Gets the ball, has some fun And now he's gonna score
I'd be happy with Kevin Denkey so shame it seems he is not being considered. Whittaker is a great player but really in the Burns position not CF and now we have Ogbene I can't see that as a priority. (Would have preferred Whittaker) I think we are ok to stick. We have Al Hamadi and Szmodics and while Hirst unfortunately seems unlucky with injuries, will be back in time. Of course an injury or suspension to Delap (the later looks likely!) and I will be eating my words.
Denkey over Broja for me. No injuries worries. Much better strike rate. Steady improvement trajectory. 79 games in last 2 seasons. Plays in the target role in the same formation as us. Lacking the muscle and height of Broja but lower wages and will see this as a step up rather than a step down.
Don't know what proportion of his £140k / week wages we are paying but at his best he is a world class player. Two things stand out from this interview. 1. Hurrah for Leif Davis! What an asset he is for our club and 2. The experiment with playing CB. We are all aware of our need for another holding midfielder and I am sure McKenna intends this role but Guardiola has spoken openly about Phillips limitations in tight spots with the game "around" him as opposed to his excellence when the game is "in front of" him. This explains the experiment as CB. Makes me wonder if McKenna does want to allow Cajuste, Morsy and Phillips all to start, if a Phillips /Greaves pairing at CB is an unforeseen possibility.
I've seen a lot of Ahmedhodzic (live in Sheffield and wife's family have 2 Blades season tickets, one of which is often spare). When he first arrived from Bordeaux (one of the Milan teams were apparently interested) he was impressive. Carries the ball well, decent distribution, composed on ball. Ideal for the Right (underlapping) CB of 3 that Blades played with in their promotion campaign but can play CB or even RB. However, despite reading the game quite well his commitment sometimes appeared lacking. Dispossessed too easily, won remarkably few areal duels given his height, and it was no surprise when his form obliterated as Utd were swamped in Premier League. Can McKenna do something with his attitude? If so, he could be a useful squad player - especially if we are going to persist with 3 at the back.
1. This is a very bad look for ITFC. 2. McKenna & co. rightly are going to do whatever is best for our squad to be in the best place in 2 weeks time. 3. Maybe we should not have arranged 2 games in 2 days... but last year we played 2 games on ONE day. 4. This reflects we are not where we want or need to be with injuries and signings. 5. None of this is anyone's fault. Injuries happen. We don't want to throw more money on players than they are worth. 6. Maybe the PR could have been handled better, more notice, apology and compensation to fans / organisers 7. I believe we have the best people to move us on from a testing situation.
MMTash, I agree, he stood out against us last season - a season in which he started many games wide and deep left. His lack of height suggests to me he would not start as our 9 (although obviously an alternative option there) but would play the Broadhead role. A totally different player to Philogene but I suspect his going to Villa has kept this deal possible. I can see his excellent long, cross passing really fitting with our quick-break style, which will be even more important in the Premiership. And what a finisher!
Looks versatile - playing further forward in many of these clips. His pace would be an asset at CB where Edmundson is currently our quickest central defender. I love them both, but a partnership of Burgess and Woolfy appears too static for the Premier League.
Would be near perfect. We lack left sided CB's. Greaves also very capable of playing at LB and would naturally fill as Leif bombs forward. May lack a bit of pace, which is true of all our existing options also, but solid, strong in the tackle and in the air and very good touch.
