Sky actually said Ross will be given at least a year
at 22:04 23 May 2018

To turn it around. What a bizarre comment. Sunderland will sack him if they are bottom by October. But I’m over Ross now. If he would rather go there with an unknown owner with a ridiculous job of sorting out all their crap over a stable club at a higher level where he will really be given time to build then good luck to him.

Can we all agree that Ross isn’t the man we thought?
at 19:06 23 May 2018

He’s clearly spoken to Sunderland before permission was granted. He couldn’t have been oblivious to that. Given how St Mirren have acted with class and allowed him to speak with us and Barnsley plus they’ve offered him a new deal as well it’s pretty poor how he’s conducted himself.

Is it Ross? Is it Hurst? Have we spoken to Hurst? Is Ross going to Sunderland. You can see why Norwich skipped this point and just appointed any old Farke.

Someone said that Sunderland weren't a big club earlier
at 16:58 23 May 2018

Well TWTD is pretty much one of the busiest forums around and we are lucky to have it, but Sunderland's version has ONE THOUSAND AND TWENTY ONE replies to a Jack Ross thread started a couple of days ago. Either they are one massively supported club or 12th Man has two cousins that are Mackems.

He was the victim of some horrible viral video whilst jogging around St James Park and he's bided his time and then had a quiet word with the missus. 'Nat, you can tell Jim White now that Ross has signed. Watch this love. Those Ipswich twitter trolls are gonna go banana's!'.

Everyone is missing this one scenario
at 13:24 23 May 2018

Evans offered Ross the job. He wanted time to consider it because of interest from other clubs and he's ultimately decided to move to Sunderland, a bigger club with much more money that we have, in an easier division, closer to home. Why does it have to be that Evans has dithered? Could it not just be we both wanted him and he picked another club for one of a variety of reasons?

St Mirren say NO contact with Ross. The media all claiming it's a done deal. Now Sky and the BBC don't often confirm it's going to happen if it isn't, but you have to believe the St Mirren Chairman, who instead of staying quiet as the deal progresses comes out and laughs and says he has no idea what the media is talking about. Doesn't sound done to me. Which is potentially excellent news as Sunderland are claiming they are going to announce the manager today, but Ross is on holiday according to St Mirren, and you don't announce a manager if they are not at the club, in the building holding up the shirt. This is unprecedented. It could be Sunderland were never in for Ross, appoint someone else and a lot of you need to apologise to Evans. If it is Ross then the behaviour of St Mirren is completely bizarre. It's one thing for the Chairman to be asked if he's going there, but another for him to come out and say 'WTF are Talksport on about'.

Some on here trying to be trendy by slating the royal wedding. Have a word. We follow eleven blokes we don’t even know up and down the country as they kick a ball about. That’s absurd to some. The wedding costs loads. It raises loads. These people are born into great wealth and privilege but have absolutely zero freedom. Their lives are almost exclusively mapped out for them. No chance at all I’d want to be one of them for all the money in the world. Like the preacher said spread the love. Not my bag but the wife loved it but why worry about something that makes so many people in this country happy for a day. What price that? Love.

Further to the marvellous acceptance thread, a thread about tolerance
at 13:22 18 May 2018

What I mean by this is how would you rate your tolerance of others? I find it a sad by product of the world that you have to tolerate certain people and certain things because you likely suffer if you don't. I've found that out first hand. I had a boss who I liked, thought he was a really decent bloke and he used to value the work I did. We all got on well in our team, used to socialise etc. Anyhow, on nights out he started chatting women up and would then take him home. He was married with kids and a few of us use to hate it. Eventually some of the group stopped going out, a few went out and pretended to be fine with it, others genuinely were. Not speaking of myself entirely but those that remained matey or pretended to be fine with his antics ended up in better paid positions than those that stopped hanging out with them all. Having bumped into Town it reminded me how much we, as people, have to grin and bear all manner of people in all walks of life for the sake of many things. So on a scale of 1 to 10 do you just ignore these people and refuse to interact with them whatever the cost or are you happy being friendly to everyone, listening to their nonsense and nodding and smiling as you know that it'll help you advance? Couldn't help feeling slightly annoyed that your life and earning capacity can be so dramatically different whether you suck up to complete idiots or give them a wide berth! If your neighbours do something everyone would think is out of order do you just ignore it and bite your tongue or march right round there and have it out with them?

Anyone else goin to join me? I really like what Southgate is doing!
at 13:36 16 May 2018

For once he seems to be picking the players on form or the players who can develop long term into a special team, rather than picking players that expect to be there or special players than don't fit into the team, he's genuinely trying to build something. I've thought we've actually looked better in the games we have played too. I'd rather have players like Tarkowski that are desperate to do well for England, than Cahill who expects to be there (this may be one of the few decisions Southgate makes I don't agree with) and goes through the motions. Southgate was not my choice, but I really respect what he is doing.

Fat 'Tax' - spin off thread
at 13:07 16 May 2018

While there are some important debates going on in the other thread, I would be genuinely interested in specifically how the great public of TWTD would go about testing what is mental illness or physical illness and what is laziness and greed? I have often joked that fat people should pay more than clothes, as someone who fits small to medium clothes. An XXL shirt can be almost twice the material of that of an S. After all if you had a bigger house and needed a bigger carpet in the lounge you'd pay more the the square meters. It is clearly the case that some obese people will have comfort eaten due to traumatic events, bereavements, depression etc and some people are just fat, greedy pigs. Some people can't work due to genuine physical symptoms leading to weight gain and others are lazy and got fat through no such condition. So how on earth do you begin to tackle this? I mean in principal a fat lazy person wearing twice as much fabric as me should pay more. But specifically how do you ever determine that is what they are? Surely it is impossible? Or can we expect doctors to be able to confirm genuine medical conditions - physical or psychological - that have played a part? EDIT - 'Tax' is what it's been referred to, not what I consider it should be!

I wonder if, in the modern era at least, there has been a day when the English and Scottish Premier League both had games producing 9 or more goals. To think Spurs beat Leicester 5-4, Hibs and Rangers drew 5-5 and then Levante beat Barca 5-4 as well. Nutty old day that.

Manager news
at 12:39 14 May 2018

Salford City, now promoted to the Conference National, have appointed Graham Alexander as their new manager. I know they have lots of cash and they'll be paying him a League One wage, but that's a hell of an appointment. Wouldn't bet against them going up now, especially with the money they have for signings and six play off places. In other news Rangers have signed Scott Arfield. What a signing that is for the SPL. He's a very good player.
