That was fun. Good quality across spectrum. Excellent from Furlong on debut.

Booming through the international transfers. Which is lovely to see. It will take a little time to bring all the strands together but the squad depth and quality is the best in the division. Over to you KM.

McKenna: We Have a New Team to Build
at 08:51:00

I don’t see them as excuses from McKenna but purely reality. We as fans clamour for new signings - which we now have - but then instantly expect a free-flowing unit on the pitch which wins 3-0 every week at this level. I can see September being a further period of adjustment - October onwards should see the up tick when a squad of this fundamental quality comes together granted a reasonable shake with injuries.

McKenna: Hirst Primed For Good Season
at 16:09:48

I have no qualms about his fitness - it will have been the training and coaching staff’s key focus with him to get sorted out. I would not be averse to another striker being added for some depth but Hirst is the number one now and will score 25 this season. In all honesty, I prefer him to Delap.

Ipswich Town 1-2 Southampton - Match Report
at 18:10:30

Having enjoyed the stratospheric highs of the last 2 seasons the sporting cycle has the team now enduring some extreme testing lows. The ownership and management have tried to do the right thing at every stage with an extraordinary amount of cash and energy invested but it has taken far longer to get a consistent return than expected. Delap and O’Shea have been the only real success stories but that is not to say the young talent can’t thrive from now until May. I would like to see a more settled side but this low could be a true turning point with more than enough points left to fight for.

Hutchinson: I'm Getting Better Each Game
at 07:03:05

KM has not only created an exciting team of footballers open to bundles of improvement but also developed very well-spoken, thoughtful individuals. Very rarely do we as fans have to stomach the usual banal football platitudes from this group and there is some genuine interesting insight. I would happily stand and argue that McKenna is the best in the business.

McKenna: A Good Day For Delap, He Can Be Proud
at 19:43:43

I don’t really watch much of the other teams but Villa were an excellent side, technically outstanding and Onana in the middle of the park was one of the best players I have seen at PR for a long time. And Ipswich matched them, including physically - O’Shea has a shiner for the ages. This is a team still some way off it’s peak but bravo to KM and all involved for keeping the points tally ticking over thus far.

AFC Wimbledon 2-2 Ipswich Town (4-2 on pens) - Match Report
at 22:12:00

This is where KM will earn his salary. He has had the best part of 2 years with tremendous success and has coached a team to the top flight with just a few tweaks of personnel here and there. He now has to develop the ability to mould a winning outfit with a much more valuable squad. I am confident he will do that too but the odd early glitch has to be expected. Disappointing to go out but we aren’t much of a cup team anyway and I liked what I saw from Johnson, Townsend, Phillips, Cajuste and particularly Jack Clarke. The trick now is to not get too far off the pace as Ipswich develop as a unit.

Ipswich Town 0-2 Liverpool - Match Report
at 15:55:05

Greaves was outstanding and Delap’s marauding up front hugely promising. Excellent effort all round on a day when it was easy to get a bit too revved up and plenty to look forward to as the players develop. Shrewd from KM as well to get Taylor, AAH and Sam on the field for a run out. Walton hasn’t missed a beat either judged on that.

Town 'On Brink' of Agreeing Phillips Loan
at 09:35:28

It is an interesting one. KM and MA must see something and can coax him out of the doldrums. His fitness will be put to the test under the rigorous Ipswich regime - he has the potential to be a big contributor from the autumn onwards if recapturing something like his Leeds form. if nothing else, I do like the continuing aggressive policy in the transfer market to try and add to the current squad.
