 | News Comment | Manchester United 'In Pole Position' For Delap at 19:13:32
Wherever Delap goes, he goes with my best wishes and thanks for what he has contributed this year. He is clearly a talented young footballer but one who has a lot of rough edges to round off and further development required to become a top striker. Not least of which is the ability to understand that he cannot always take on a defence single handled and that team mates are sometimes in a better position than he is. I would argue that Hirst maybe has better situational awareness than he does at the moment. Like all talented youngsters with potential he needs to be playing week in, week out to develop and the challenge is how do you achieve that when you go to a top Premiership club (you can debate whether Man U are still a top club). think it unlikely that he would be a starter for Chelsea and Man U, but maybe I am wrong. Would he be better going to a Brighton, Forest, Bournemouth, Brentford, etc, maybe. Anyway, all the best. |
 | News Comment | Town Women Denied Return to Top as Game Abandoned at 09:55:07
I left the Swansea area at 11am to drive back to Ipswich and it had been lashing down for an hour or so before I left and continued to do so all the way up through Wales. I am surprised that they managed to get the game started. |
 | News Comment | Hackett: Officials Need Operational Advice For Failure to Red Card Pedro at 15:39:03
For a number of years now, rugby has had a significant focus on head contact attempting to remove it: Head contact with force and no mitigation = red card Head contact with mitigation = yellow card If that had happened in a rugby game it would have been a red card. I thought that the standard of refereeing in the Championship and League 1 was poor, but it’s even worse in this league and then you add the quality of the VAR official’s to that"……………. |
 | News Comment | Donacien: My Hardest Ever Goodbye at 12:35:11
The best of luck to a true professional, thanks for being part of the Town journey over the past few years. I can see Janoi going down the coaching route at some point, so maybe it’s just ‘au revoir’. |
 | News Comment | FA Publish Cunha Ban Written Reasons at 16:42:50
So using that logic: If a player is shown a red card for a dangerous/reckless tackle then they should immediately apologise, offer to buy a new pair of shin pads for the other player and get a one game reduction to the ban. I haven’t read anything as illogical/daft as that explanation for a long while. |
 | News Comment | Ashton: Delighted By Performances Even If Results Haven't Followed at 11:35:37
I think that’s a pretty fair assessment of what’s happened since promotion was confirmed and of the seasons performance so far. Sometimes, I wonder about people’s expectations. This season was always going to be incredibly difficult for three reasons; the massive step up in the quality of football (the quality of all the opposition teams has surpassed what I expected; the limitations imposed by FFP and integrating a lot of new signings into the squad, On Sunday, there were 9 of the league one squad in the match day squad! We are not marooned yet, I am sure there will be more investment in players in the January window and hope still remains. |
 | News Comment | Charlton Hoping to Complete Ladapo Signing Today at 11:33:38
This is just another example of the constant process to upgrade the squad as you progress further and as your ambitions become greater. A big thank you to Freddie for his contributions particularly last season when his goals were an integral part of the promotion campaign. All the best. |
 | News Comment | Town Closing in On Loan Signing of Blackburn Skipper Travis at 10:47:28
Makes sense on a number of levels: - No real squad cover for Morsy’s short term ban or future injuries if unlucky. - As much as I really like Luongo his performances have dropped off a tad recently. - I am not sure how Taylor fits into the type of midfield and playing style that KM favours. |
 | News Comment | Town Confirm Tuanzebe Signing at 17:49:07
On a 1 year contract I don’t see this as a risk, there is only upside. A potentially substantial upside. |
 | News Comment | Office Outlet and Gym Set For February Demolition at 12:43:51
For me, the Council owning the ground is a huge positive. At some point the current owners will sell and It protects the club from future lunatic owners selling the ground for development. I am pretty sure that Evans tried to buy the ground but the council refused to sell. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out what his plans were. |
 | News Comment | Town Accounts Show Evans Waived or Settled £96m in Loans at 11:06:32
You can say what you like about Evans and many have but whichever way you look at it he saved this club from potential liquidation twice. Firstly when he originally purchased the club and now by writing off this massive amount of debt. Let's face it, who was going to buy a League 1 club with circa £100m of debt? Unfortunately, he just had no idea how to run a football club and more importantly didn't bring people in who did. I have supported this club since my first game with my father in 1969 and believe me the pain of the last few years has been horrible but I for one say thank you to Evans for writing off the massive debt and hopefully better times are around the corner. You can't keep looking back, you have to focus on the future. |
 | News Comment | Dozzell's QPR Move Confirmed at 16:32:59
For me, he has never really consistently positively influenced games enough but I wish him well for what is a very pivotal moment in his career. It will be really interesting to see whether he can establish himself as a regular in a Championship side. |
 | News Comment | Cambridge Eyeing Bishop at 10:40:14
I suspect that Cook will be looking for consistency every week from a smaller squad of 18-20 and I am not sure that Bishop (and others) match that requirement. As others have said, there is talent there but if you look back over the 5 years, how many times have we seen it demonstrated consistently across a run of games? |
 | News Comment | Swindon Town 1-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 18:36:04
Although neither a sage or a key board warrior I am happy to try and provide some answers for you LondonTractorBoy. This squad started the last two League 1 seasons by topping the league about a quarter of the way in to both seasons. The majority of supporters felt that despite this performances were not great and that we were generally scoring first and then holding on to win by the odd goal. In both seasons, the team fell away to finish mid table. Does this strike you as a team with fight, spirit, a competitive desire to win, etc, etc? If you listened to Ian Atkins after today's game his summary was that you would probably only keep 3 or 4 of today's team and even then a couple of them would be more squad members than regular starters. That is a sad inditement of the squad from an ex pro. You have to give any new manager the opportunity to build his own team and live or die by its performances. You can't keep changing the manager every six months as that way, madness lies. In eighteen months time, you may well be proved to be right about Cook but he has a track record of getting teams promoted by playing front foot football and he has to be given a chance. |
 | News Comment | Five Changes as Vincent-Young Returns and Chambers Drops to Bench at 12:21:48
I really don't get this Kenlock thing. I think his strength is in the opposition half and he can put in a half decent cross now and then but defensively he is naive and tends to get caught out of position. The priority for a full back particularly at this level is to be defensively strong. Let's face it, he has played under multiple managers now and has never made the position his own. I don't believe all these mangers have got it wrong. |
