Arrival of 'Malware'...
at 18:20 28 May 2020

With the implementation of the new 'Track & Trace' system, am I wrong to anticipate an epidemic of 'Malware Virus' as large as 'Convid19 or am I being more pessimistic than usual ??? (Please open this nice NHS link to give me full access to your bank details)

The Future of Football...
at 11:37 22 May 2020

That was one of the things this morning that made me feel 'uneasy' about football's future. If a lower league club's big descision is to to (a) Pay the TV companies back £100,000 for failing to fulfil their footballing contract OR (b) spend £140,000 on completeing the season but with no income then it's no contest isn't it. At this moment Kayden Jackson is lucky to have a conract for the foreseeable future. His retail value in the present climate is close to zero because there is no money to be spent on players.

The Future of Football...
at 11:21 22 May 2020

The more that I read about it, the more I think that the 'game' as we know it now is finished. If the Prem League manage to sort out the huge financial problem that they have (and many will say that is of their own making) that structure may continue to exist but in a much changed form. The funding/finance for the Championship will take away 50% of the clubs. Leagues 1 & 2 will amalgamate on a North/South basis (as it was in the 1950's) but will be semi pro and Non-League will have the status of Sunday League football. I hope that I'm wrong but with the prospect of in excess of 8,ooo lower league players looking for another club in the coming weeks, I'm not over hopeful....Old Person now awaits arrival of 'down arrows'.

Excellent summary of situation in FL
at 12:32 19 May 2020

Ever so sorry....but must disagree with you. Things go in cycles and if you go back to a time before 'football started' (the start of the Prem League...) a certain small East Anglian Football Club went from the 3rd Div South to the 2nd Div and then to the peak to win the First Div Championship (today's Prem League title !!!). A day in 1978 and a trip to Wemberleeee against opposition who were guaranteed to take the Cup home to North London and then to Amsterdam. These things happened to a small East Anglian football club. OK, so it's some time ago but history doesn't allow re-writes. Will it happen again ??? Only time will tell BUT I'm not going to stop believing....Old Person's Rant Over.

Strange Question for a Monday Morning...
at 08:31 11 May 2020

Has anyone on the forum used an 'electronic cat repellent'.... If so (1 Do they work & (2) Does the electronic thingy have any affect on bird-life. My problem is that there is an area of my garden that a number of birds have taken to nesting in. This has been discovered by the local cat population who now regard this as 'fair game'. I would much rather have a family of blackbirds than a two ton ginger tom who doesn't wish my blackbirds a long & happy life....

One player for Town you wished you'd seen play that you haven't
at 13:10 30 Apr 2020

Leadbitter was a player 'years ahead of his time'. I saw him play several times (including the Third Div South days).....One of the best players ever to pull on a Town shirt. An England international right back once asked his manager how to play him, The reply was...'Don't worry about it. Take up your normal position on the pitch. He'll find you after about 30 mins.

I know these are 'difficult times' but please spare a thought for those of the Emergency Services who were first on the scene. Those images will live for them for the rest of their lives and no amount of 'counselling' will ever take that away (if they can receive some form of help that is.....)

Being a Miserable Old Sod......

I've always regarded the 'Thought for the Day' slot on BBC R4 Today prog as a total waste of time. Today's, however, was as powerful piece of radio as was Ian Wright's time on 'Desert Island Discs'. The moral of all this.....If your family members are 102 or 2 years old then cherish them. In these troubles times, no one knows just how long they will be with you (or you with them). If you get a chance to listen to Anne Atkins give her thought for the day then do so. Old Person's Rant over...

I thought that there was a 'Director of Football' already in place. Isn't that Lee O'Neil's job??

Just the most magnificent listen with Ian Wright. It says SO much about the power of being a good teacher. 'Tears to a glass eye'.

The 'palm reader' was from the Petralengo family (allegedly...Long ago all of the Daily newspapers had fortune teller columns written by people called Petralengo) and she said she'd been reading palms for over 40 years. I wonder if she saw last Sunday's result coming ??? "Cross me palm with silver dearie 'coz you've got a lucky face".

Controversal Thought.....
at 15:58 18 Dec 2019

I've just watched the highlights of Fallon Sherrock's win at the PDC Darts. How long will it be before female footballers are playing in league teams. I appreciate the argument about physical strength but long, long ago one of ITFC's most accurate passers of a ball would not live with the current levels of fitness. Jimmy Leadbetter ('Sticks' to many)struggled run BUT could pass a ball over 40 or 50 yards and land it on a sixpence (sorry about the old money). He was the principal architect of Crawford & Phillips goals through that ability. (Awaits arrival of down arrows)

One of the most underrated entertainers of the 1960's & 70's. Singer & comedian plus song writer (3 songs for the Small Faces plus co-writer of the 'Minder' theme).
