 | News Comment | Pompey Boss Jackett Linked With Town at 21:41:41
Whilst I am keeping a totally open mind as to who becomes the next Manager here at Portman Road, I struggle to believe this link purely as this doesn't come across as “trying something different”, an extract taken from Marcus' interview being released tomorrow. It will be interesting to hear that interview, although I still believe that a Managerial appointment won't be made until a few weeks after the completion of this season. |
 | News Comment | Nash Looking Forward to Pitting Wits Against Top Manager Bruce at 13:45:37
Although not totally relevant to the article and knowing that football has changed dramatically from the days of Joe Royle, the below does still go to show that sometimes, even when a club is in a difficult situation and with little to no money to spend - excitement and entertainment can still be achieved. "When Royle became Ipswich manager, the club was struggling near the Division One relegation zone, but the change in management sparked a revival and Ipswich narrowly failed to reach the 2002—03 play-offs. The club came out of administration during the 2003—04 season, and continued to challenge for promotion back to the Premier League. Ipswich finished that season in fifth place, but were beaten in the play-off semi finals. Ipswich missed automatic promotion in the 2004—05 season, finishing third, only two points behind second-placed Wigan Athletic. Again, they lost in the play off semi-finals. Although they had been pre-season promotion favourites for the 2005—06 season, Ipswich finished 15th, the club's lowest finish since 1966, and Joe Royle resigned on 11 May 2006" What struck me as most interesting within this extract is how similar the tenures of Joe and Mick are in terms of league position - Taking over during relegation battles before leading us to be playoff contenders for a few years, before falling back down and setting the clubs lowest finish for decades. When Joe left we managed to jump back up to being playoff contenders under Jim - heres hoping that we can achieve that same jump again next season..! |
 | News Comment | Chambers: I'd Love to Manage Town One Day at 13:07:07
No matter what your opinion on Luke's footballing ability is, I think that the vast majority would be in agreement that he is a fantastic individual to have at our club. His passion, desire and overall professionalism, alongside his clear leadership qualities and apparently love for our club can only be seen as a good thing and I would certainly have no issues with him staying at the club in some capacity once he hangs up his boots. There is clearly a huge amount to learn in order to become a successful football manager at Championship/Premiership level, however, with Luke's ambition and willingness to learn and improve he certainly has a chance of making it. I can see Luke and Cole as a management team, going down the same road as Mowbray and Venus have. Whether either of the duo's will be seen within the ITFC home dugout at somepoint in the future, only time will tell. |
 | News Comment | Knudsen: I Don't Like the Way Fans Treated Mick at 12:35:58
In relation to the comments "if you look at what he had done for the club, they have to be pleased with that" - I feel that what players and staff maybe don't quite understand here is that the ONLY things that fans have to go on are team performances and league position. Based on this alone I don't believe that fans "have to be pleased", in particular with progress over the last 24-36 months. Mick may well have transformed our club behind the scenes, however, players and staff cannot expect the fans to give credit to Mick (or anyone else) for this when we are totally in the dark about it. No matter who the next manager is, increased communication and transparency around what happens behind the scenes at Portman Road would be a huge plus for the fans - we can only judge and comment by what we see/hear after all. |
 | News Comment | Knudsen: I Don't Like the Way Fans Treated Mick at 12:30:24
Agree with what Jonas is saying here - some did overstep the mark and make it personal to Mick the man rather than Mick the manager. HOWEVER, how long do we have to keep hearing about this from players and staff. For better or worse, Mick has gone and this is an amazing opportunity for the club (being the fans, staff and players together) to move forwards and be excited for the future, together. |
 | News Comment | Cotter: As Soon as I Walked into Ipswich I Wanted to Stay at 10:23:09
The players clearly respected and enjoyed working with Mick, however, for the sake of the new Manager I think that it's time now for both the players and staff to move on and understand that Mick is no longer at ITFC. It is a concern that this continued talk of how "outstanding" Mick was may soon become an issue for any new potential Manager - who will want to stamp their own mark on the club and not be worried about being constantly compared to Mick! Many of us have worked for bosses who make work fun and enjoyable internally - that's all great stuff, but if that same boss is not meeting clearly set targets and alienating clients/customers then they won't stay the boss for long. |
