 | News Comment | Chelsea Trigger £30m Delap Release Clause at 15:45:41
Blueboy1981 - why are you so hung up on your entitlement to be negative? Bet you're fun at parties. wolfyattheback - why is this a bad deal and why do you think we're not well protected? This isn't a subjective point, Ashton is the closest to the running of our club and he'll know what's required to protect the books, whilst trying to negotiate contracts and get the best talent through the door. So i'm inclined to back him and trust his judgement on this. Darkhorse - to mention Evans as world class... he was so far from being world class that it's not even amusing. Evans made sure we didn't go under and that is all he can be credited with. His 'world class' ownership binned us in League One, with some of the worst management selection to ever walk through this club. Out of interest, @blueboy1981, is that negative enough for you? |
 | News Comment | Chelsea Trigger £30m Delap Release Clause at 20:19:42
Blueboy1981 - one of the highest paid managers? Where are you getting that?! And you’re living 50 years ago, the world’s moved on. If you can’t, you’ll continue to be disappointed.i don’t think anyone is easily satisfied, just realistic. |
 | News Comment | Chelsea Trigger £30m Delap Release Clause at 18:32:48
Blimey - so many here thinking they would have done a better job with town contracts. Think of it this way: 1. Delap probably wanted a lower bar in his agreement to ensure fewer blockers if he wanted to move. Player looking after himself and probably wasn't willing to take the risk without it. 2. We're £12million up in the same reporting FFP period, rather than £15million down on his purchase. 3. Showing players will support them in moves to big clubs makes Ipswich a more attractive proposition, versus tying down players to contracts and forcing them to stick around. 4. No-one knew how well Delap would do. In 30 odd appearances in the Championship last year, he scored 8 goals. Plus he's carried mid-term injuries in both of the last two seasons. Probably more factors i've not considered. Remember, we didn't put the £30mill clause in, that would have be on the negotiate of his agent. And if we didn't agree, he probably wouldn't have come. |
 | News Comment | Town Coach Grant Linked With Terriers Job at 09:36:25
Agreed victorysquad, great coaches but could be the right opportunity for him, especially because he commutes from the North West to be with us. Would not blame him and would give McKenna to take a new look at personnel. |
 | News Comment | Phillips: McKenna Made Me Believe in Myself Again at 09:28:35
Cloddyseedbed - you wished we'd signed someone else? Guessing hindsight has given you this platform. Quietly confident that we signed him to be a much more active player, but it didn't work out. Not sure anyone is at fault for that. Darkhorse - whilst well written, an astonishing level of criticism. What's the relevance of new signings having not played in League One? One naff season out of three and suddenly we're doomed to the lower echelons? Don't waste your time following the club if you can't see the journey we're on - we're building sustainably and for the long-term, with the right cultural and ensuring we create our identity. To not compromise those elements is essential to the plan, this season was too much too soon for where we'd come from but we're far better for it. Stunned at the negativity around this place sometimes... we've just had Premier League football for the first time in 22 years, in a competition renowned for monopolistic attributes yet 'fans' see failure... |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Delap's Spent the Week Looking at His Options and Having Conversations at 15:53:53
For those thinking the timing of this is poor - it will help us balance the FFP requirements if we can sell him before 30th June, which I believe is the end of the reporting period. It means we will have made £15mill rather than spent £15mill which could be a big impact on the books. Admittedly I hadn't legislated for Ipswich being active in trying to sell him, but it makes sense given his popularity and his release clause. |
 | News Comment | Taylor: It's Up to Us to Take Accountability For Not Taking Our Chances at 11:29:36
Lots of people getting very wound up by a game that ultimately meant nothing. Don't get me wrong, i'm not thrilled by the result or performance but I think this has been a long, hard, disappointing season that tbh I think everyone wants out of the way now. Leicester had more incentive than us (Vardy party) and still barely showed up. Not sure what people expect/want from interviews, Taylor's owned up and people still wine about him. McKenna is one of the most honest and insightful manager's going, and now that's not good enough for some. Chill out, everyone. It's a speed bump in a long journey. Can't wait to get this slog out of the way and focus on next season. |
 | News Comment | Harness: Thanks Rams, I Had a Great Time at 15:16:27
flykickingbybgunn - unfortunately doing the right thing by players and right thing by the club tend to be very different outcomes, would be nice to operate in the world where that more closely aligns but realistically the club would probably want a fee for everyone. |
 | News Comment | Humphreys Wycombe Young Player of the Year at 10:49:19
Had been following him a lot of the season but in the last few weeks, honestly forgot we had him. Could be a huge asset next season, that's really exciting. |
 | News Comment | Cajuste Nominated For Goal of the Month at 16:34:40
DifferentGravy - are you suggesting players aren't giving it ago? As for McKenna, the man is still learning his craft, he's not even 40 yet and already he's brought more promotions to this club than most fans have seen in their lifetimes. Not sure we can credit Paul Cook with much tbh, he may have bought in some of the players but it was McKenna who got a tune out of them - remember Cook had us in mid-table with the same bunch? Clearly I was being a bit facetious about the statue, but he's far closer to deserving that than he is the ire of fan criticism. Momentum and confidence bring so much in sport and both of those have been hard to come by this season. Many reasons as to why but I won't be faulting their effort nor commitment. To me, they all look a bit knackered and I imagine the extra demands that being in Premier League requires is now taking it's toll on the back end of the season. I'll still be celebrating the boys this year, come what may. |
 | News Comment | Ashton Tight-Lipped on Delap Clause Reports at 15:14:05
Agree with you Karlosfandangal - plenty of examples where players' careers have gone south as a result of moving to bigger clubs/european competitions/etc. Delap is young and hungry but he wants to play and develop. The team was built with the future in mind. |
 | News Comment | Judgements to Be Made on Tuanzebe, Phillips and Chaplin, Muric Looks Set For Surgery at 15:10:15
I feel for Muric. No-one comes in and wants to perform badly. The heat he gets from the fans is unmerited, it's the management that select the team and if he's struggling with the pressure and expectation then he should have been taken out of the firing line sooner and provided with some support to get him better prepared. If he's getting MOTM for Kosovo, he's got something about him but for whatever reason it's not working at Portman Rd. Similarly for the rest of the group - our best results are coming away from home. I think that's very telling in how the pressure has built on the lads. |
 | News Comment | Cajuste Nominated For Goal of the Month at 20:40:05
DifferentGravy by name, different gravy by nature… shall we sack McKenna then? Young manager, learning his craft and giving us top flight football, the guy deserves a statue, not criticism. |
 | News Comment | Delap Left Out of England Squad at 10:23:01
He's got so much more developing to do. Don't get sucked in by the lazy journos and pundits bigging Delap up, he's got raw, explosive talent but he's got so much more to develop before being a serious contender for England. I also don't think he leaves in the Summer, I think he understands where his education best sits. |
 | News Comment | FA Charge Wolves Forward Cunha at 20:11:35
SpiritOfJohn, the FA’s use of English is criminal. They did it before with his last ban, the description of the offence didn’t make sense. |
 | Blog Comment | Half a Glass in Thailand at 17:00:01
Nice piece and great to hear that you're flying the flag for Ipswich in Thailand! Whilst it's virtually impossible to disagree that Muric's performances not being up to standard, I won't go heavy on the guy or the decisions to buy/play him. No-one went with the intention of this being a relative failure. The mental battle and confidence issues for goalkeepers in particular is huge - I'd encourage anyone to read the tragic Robert Enke book to understand this better. I've heard our own fans be vile to Muric at games, as if this would help the guy. Plain wrong - he's clearly having mental gymnastics when he gets on the pitch, desperate to do well but getting it wrong. On the flipside of this, mgmt have a responsibility to handle this situation and support Muric better. Get him out of the firing line, work with him on the issues, etc, that's their job. But i'm also loathed to point the finger at them - lest we forget that McKenna is still young and inexperienced himself. He's learning and he will accept he got this wrong. That's the game, we have to accept the imperfections and move forward positively. Sorry Aro, looks like we won't be your club, wish you well going forward. Welcome Alex Palmer. |
 | News Comment | Delap: I Knew I Could Score in the Premier League at 10:32:24
I don't he'll go anywhere in the Summer. He's doing well for us but managers will know that he's still very much developing as a player and big Prem teams want established strikers. We'd want a hefty fee for him and he'll want to play week in, week out. He says that himself. Mckenna will be the glue, he has a plan for his football education and Delap buys into that. One season in the Championship at 22, to play again in the Prem at 23 is far from tragic in terms of career path. He'll get more time on the ball in the Championship and better service, this is part of his development. If someone comes in with a £50mill offer, I've no doubt it would be entertained. But I can't see him feeling for a low margin of profit. |
 | News Comment | Lampard: Analyse the Game Without the Goals and It's Pretty Even at 12:12:59
'But they had more goals.... but they've spent money on players... but we've played loads of games....' jeez you'd think his job is on the online with the number of excuses he vomited up. Game played out virtually as expected bearing in mind that we needed minutes in legs, they are a team with a bit of upward momentum, the FA cup is a bit of a distraction for both teams. We always looked more dangerous than them and we know having more of the ball means not a lot over 90 minutes of football - Frank is just sour grapes. |
 | News Comment | Palmer: Time For Me to Embrace a New Challenge at 16:04:16
Glad to get Alex in, the ideal signing. Experienced at his craft, delivered to the highest standard in the competition he's been in and this is a platform for him to take a step up, plus we didn't break the bank. What annoys me is this is clear acknowledgment of Muric not being up to it. I would never boo a player and he's confidence looks shot, but this is where management earns it's crust. They backed him for too long and it's a large contributor to where we find ourselves. It's not the only reason but it's a decent chunk. |
