After recruiting a number of managers, with varying degrees of success, you do have to wonder about Evans' ability as an owner. As a successful businessman you would think that his ability to choose the right personnel would be highly honed but when it comes to our football club his decisions over the managers he hires is quite suspect. And then he's quite inconsistent. McCarthy, as a manager, was a catch for Evans, but he didn't support his choice by allowing him to spend on players, yet then his replacement was given a lot more freedom to decimate the team and replace them with also-rans. Of course we must respect Evans for rescuing our club, but now serious thought must be given by Evans as to whether he is the right man to take us forward. |
 | News Comment | Lambert: We Must Show Right Attitude and Mentality at Bolton at 08:20:19
Like any experienced manager he's thinking short and long term - and the interview reflects this. Burnout, both mentally and physically, is a real issue and a worry for him. There's just no point thrashing young players till they break and have them sitting out in rehab for the remainder of the season. Bolton have to choice - we do. Still expecting a good win, though. |

Everyone should read the Gazette 'Ken Goody' article (thanks for the link, Steve ITFC Sweden). From Goody himself we now know McCarthy was a popular manager with the staff and players alike, but was unable to communicate to the public why he was unable to play a more expansive game, but then I suppose he couldn't say, ''Eee you should try and manage these rubbish players and no money to by better to boot''. Goody is also right in saying that if MM had stayed on we would still be in The Championship - even if the crowd attendance was in the hundreds, not thousands. |

Good summary of a horrible season 'rickw', but you didn't include - 'Then offers came in for Adam Webster, Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn, the players felt no loyalty to our new manager and wanted to leave' in your Main Reasons bullet points. Shortened to, 'Poor choice of replacement manager', if you like. Further, no matter what you thought of the previous season's manager getting rid of MM was a contributory factor, if not the main reason for the position we find ourselves in today. |

Makes a bit of a mockery of the suggestion that we bung all our youngsters into the first team, eh? These kids are vulnerable to the physical and mental pressure put on them from a very young age and need to be looked after a lot more carefully than they are - by all clubs. They are not greyhounds or horses and, as such, they are not bred for the job so they'll come into academies, up and down the country, with all sorts of unknown strengths and weaknesses. It's a great credit to them that they've got as far as they have. Good luck to them all. |

I don't think it's much to do with his mental health as it is to do with his mental approach to competition. It's the stress that most of us can't handle and that's why a professional sports psychologist can help these youngsters to turn it from a negative to a positive. You only need to look at the success of Steve Peters' work with Ronnie O'Sullivan to understand the importance of these professionals in the development of their young clients. I've no idea if MM spoke to a psychologist first or just relied on his own intuition before deciding that for Flynn a change was as good as a rest. Certainly worked though. |

Oh dear. Now many are saying get rid of Evans. Surely the lesson of last year, when some urged us to get rid of MM, is that yelling ''get rid of...'' can cut both ways. Whatever you think of MM you can be certain that we wouldn't be facing this mess if he'd stayed on and given more dosh to buy a few decent attacking players. To force Evans out might see us jumping from the frying pan into the proverbial fire. Our club is not a very attractive proposition as we don't own our own stadium. Might be different if it did. And there aren't many rich supporters out there with deep enough pockets to give away £6 million plus a year, so please don't bringing banners to the game and force him to leave. He might just take the hint and leave us where he found us - deep in debt. As seems likely (still hoping for a miracle) if we are demoted we'll just have to work hard to bring stability back into the club that we lost (or threw away) in 2018. Happy New Year to all. |

Then I'm proud to be a nodding dog, blueboy. But hey, I'm really enjoying this exiting new football style of play - shame about the results, though. |
