 | News Comment | Edwards: The Ball's in Hackney's Court at 04:42:38
I've read that Spurs and Everton are still interested in signing him - if true, my gut feel is that he will delay/hold out to get an offer to play in the EPL. Would love to see him at Ipswich but don't think it will happen... |
 | News Comment | Fulham Linked With Johnson at 22:22:31
Just so I'm clear, my comments relate to his ability, as shown over the course of the season, not to do with his red card vs. Newcastle. He does seem to cover a bit of ground up and down the left side, but defends poorly, gives the ball away often, and a very high percentage of his successful passes are backwards or square. |
 | News Comment | Fulham Linked With Johnson at 21:39:56
Yessss My personal opinion is he nowhere near EPL level. Not a great defender, offers very little going forward and doesn't seem to make good use of his size. League One player at best, hope we can get his wages off the books. |
 | News Comment | Morsy: We Know There's a Great Opportunity to Come Back at 21:38:41
“We’ve been close. To survive in the league as a promoted team you need those margins to go your way" I think firstly the players need to be honest and admit they haven't been close. We have absolutely competed in a lot of games, but unfortunately only for short amounts of time. It needs to be for 90+ mins or you have no chance to stay up. Not through lack of effort I would say, but through lack of quality. Really hope we can bounce back next season, but think it will be a tough task. Will be an interesting summer, seeing who stays and who goes. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 1-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers - Match Report at 08:41:50
It's all been said in the above posts - but personally I'm struggling to see why McKenna 1) plays Ben Johnson at all, let alone 90 mins - he looks like a lower league player to me, no where near EPL standard; and 2) why Jack Taylor is our first choice sub, I can't see what he offers in a positive way at either end of the park. When he came on against Bournemouth he constantly gave them the ball back, less so today as he barely touched the ball.... |
 | News Comment | McKenna: Three Really, Really Bad Goals Before Half-Time at 06:29:23
Our recruitment has been poor for a side that needed to try and stay up this season, we really lack any Prem level quality. So many of our players have a poor first touch when under pressure, and so much of our passing tends to be to players in worse positions or behind the player, causing them to check their run. Our midfield generally gets overrun and our front 4 never play as a unit. We know all this, but KM keeps with exactly the same formation and tactics regardless - it's not working he should have tried to change something earlier in the season. I can't see us getting more that 2 points between now and the end of the season. I'm already looking forward to next season, but that said, I think it will be very difficult to get promoted straight away. |
 | News Comment | McKenna's Gut Feeling No More Ins or Outs Before Window Closes at 07:55:37
What number 9 does everyone expect us to sign in January, that would score enough goals (with limited service) to keep us up? I'm hoping for otherwise, but fully expect us to go down - I'm hoping we can keep the bulk of these players together to bounce back at the first attempt (and that won't be easy), and with the previous EPL experience and hopefully adding a bit more quality to the squad, we will have a much better chance to stay up next time round. |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 0-2 Brighton & Hove Albion - Match Report at 05:15:28
Very disappointing after an okay first half. I don't understand why, when we are losing a game, we just pass the ball across the back 4 and back to the keeper repeatedly. Most of our passing throughout the game was so slow, we need to up the tempo, we are far too easy to defend against. As others have said O'Shea had a good game. I thought Broadhead did too, our biggest threat. I even thought Burns was okay today and I have been critical of him this season. I'm a Woolfy fan, but he wasn't great today and Burgess hasn't put a foot wrong when he has played? Our midfield needs to work harder and play forward more - maybe we need 3 in there? |

I've just heard that Villa have come in with a matching offer and are buying him back again. |
 | News Comment | McKenna: We Have to Take Lessons From Game That Ran Away From Us at 19:52:06
I love this club, this team and Kieran, but I'm sorry Kieran you need to take a good chunk of the blame today. Playing out from the back has worked for us this season....... when? Russell Martin rightly got slaughtered for playing this way, and KM doesn't seem to have a plan B. Why didn't KM sub Morsy when he took of Cajuste, game was gone and there was always a good chaance he'd pick up the 5th yellow. Defence awful today, can't mark players in the box, can't clear the ball - at times Morsy was the only one I could see busting a gut to get back. We need to start getting the ball in the box more often, we get into good field position and end up passing it back to the keeper. Al-Hamadi tried hard and Broadhead looked good when he was on - the only Ipswich player that could make space for himself. We've got to get him on the field more.... Feeling very nervous about the next two. |
 | News Comment | Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-2 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 00:33:17
Firstly, really happy to get a win today - awesome that the players kept fighting right to the end. Wolves are a pretty poor side, but I think they were unlucky not to take something from the match today, HOWEVER it didn't need to be that way - I'm still struggling to understand why we nearly always slow up play when we attack the opposition box, it just gives the defence a chance to get organised.... I'm assuming it's the managers instructions, otherwise the coaches should be rectifying the situation. Twice we attacked the box with pace, first time Delap and we end up scoring, the second time was when Burns got into space and crossed - if only he had played the simple ball on the ground then Delap probably would have scored. Playing out from the back is excruciating to watch, and simply put not working like it did in the lower divisions. So frustrating watching us pass back to Muric from the edge of the opposition penalty area. As other have said, Burgess outstanding today. Thought Cajuste was good too. Jack Clarke showed a couple of glimpses of what he can do (great corner), hopefully he gets some confidence from that. Harry Clarke very poor, not helped by Burns playing in front of him - equally out of his depth (although with a couple of better touches today). We really struggle down that side without Axel. Muric was good on crosses today, but fumbled a few shots and as well documented, beaten at the near post (with no deflection) - that said, he's not the only EPL keeper beaten at the near post this season. |
 | News Comment | Nottingham Forest 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 23:31:45
Out of interest, has anyone else noticed that 80%-90% of throw-ins taken by Leif Davis are thrown directly to the opposition? He very rarely takes a quick throw, he just delays until the defence are set, and then gives it back to them.... |
 | News Comment | Ipswich Town 1-1 Leicester City - Match Report at 08:24:08
Gutted, thought that might be the one. Must say, as much effort as the boys are putting in, I'm finding it hard to see where the first win is coming from. Today... Muric and Johnson both decent games - well done - although I feel they are both just a mistake waiting to happen. Rest of the defence did well - great goal by Leif. I though Morsy was outstanding, but he was partially at fault for the goal. Though Phillips was good too, until the cards. Maybe lucky not to get a red for the first. Chappers and Delap both good games and Omari got better as the game went on. Szmodics was the only starter that I thought wasn't great - although he is no left winger. McKenna just needs to make a call between him and Chaplin in the central role. Other than the blatant penalty, my biggest whinge of the game is that McKenna brought on Burns when he did - we were a worse team when he came on, at the moment offers nothing at both ends of the field (unsure how he rated 5+ by our supporters). Surely Luongo would have been a better bet, down to ten, change the shape and protect the back four and our lead.... |
 | News Comment | West Ham United 4-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 23:37:15
My thoughts.... Yes a poor day today, some of our first touches were very poor for this level of football, and I don't think we were aggressive enough in our defensive third. Muric - I think we'll see one good game in every 5-6 matches. Personally I'm worried every time he has the ball at his feet, and think Walton deserves a shot. Johnson - hard to see why West Ham rated him so highly. Poor today in all aspects. Greaves and O'Shea - both look like good defenders, but I'm not sure the partnership is there just yet. Hopefully that will come with time. Morsy - though he was better today than some of the comments are suggesting. yes he made some mistakes, but then everyone did. Omari - looking very average to be fair. Noting that he took some time to get up to speed at Championship level. Think he will get there, but McKenna leaving him on too long, hoping he is going to click. Delap - looks a very good player considering he has had great support from the 3 behind him. Burns in particular is not using his pace to best effect. Subs - impressed with the effort and energy that Chaplin brought to the pitch, could be worth a start. Taylor some very poor passing after a couple of recent impressive cameos. Overall, I think we will generally continue to improve as the season goes on (with a few blips, like today), but if I'm completely honest I can't see where (enough of) the wins are going to come from to keep us up. I'll continue to enjoy the season regardless and hope for the best. |
 | News Comment | Burns: Bad Day at the Office at 22:19:36
You also need to lift your game Wes, you are an international winger you need to start to show that in the EPL. You have pace but very rarely take the ball to the byline and whip it in (trust your team mates to get on the end of it), 9 time out if 10 you will turn back and give the defence time to organise. Pace scares defenders and we are not making the most of what we have at the moment. You were also one of many today that didn't bust a gut today to get back when West Ham continually broke. |
 | News Comment | Southampton 1-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 00:22:03
Relief to get a point at the end - great to see the team still battling right to the end. Thought Morsy and Muric were both good today. Axel had to put his foot through that clearance, very poor goal to give away, especially after his performance last week. Leif's set piece delivery is really poor, should have made more of all those corners - isn't there anyone else that can take them? As others have already said, would like to see Szmodics down the middle, don't think he is as effective on the left. Most frustrating thing for me about the game, was how often we slow down the play when we get to the attacking third, I lost count the number of times Burns, Hutchinson and Davis put their foot on the ball and turned back when we are in good positions. We always look our best when we stretch teams, but slowing it down just lets the defence get sorted. Anyway, good not to lose and on to a VERY hard match next week. |
