Tokyo/Osaka experts

August will be hot, humid and sticky on another level. First time I went was in Sept and it was grueling at times.

Keep your itinary light as you'll get zonked by the heat. On the plus side there are loads of vending machines for some cold sports drinks.

I wasn't really a fan of Kyoto, temples were amazing but the place is ruined by tourism.

If you want to escape the heat a bit I'd recommend Takayama up in the mountains. It's a bit out of the way but I loved it enough to go back.

Standing desks?
at 15:47 26 Feb 2025

It's not what you're after but I treated myself to a Secret Labs Magnus desk. It's ridiculously expensive, yes but it's top quality and I can go from sitting to standing at the tap of 1 button. I would wholly recommend. I'm 6'1

I sit/stand at this desk for a minimum of 8 hours a day and often more so why not make it comfortable and pleasant. They do hold their value too so future sale will recoup some cost but I don't see myself getting rid.

Thanks to American hardware. Once that's run out, what exactly is stopping Russian advances?

If it's morally wrong to eat meat because they're sentient beings
at 10:26 29 Jul 2024

While I'm veggie my wife and children are pescatarian.

The way I see it is if a fish has lived in the wild (as opposed to being farmed) it's had a "nice" life. Do I feel good that it would have been scooped up in a huge net and suffocated? No. Has it had a better life than lots of other animals destined for the plate? easily yes.

But I might be an outlier as I don't have a problem with people eating meat if they've raised it and slaughtered it themselves.

Beer
at 13:12 21 Jul 2024

I'll admit I've recently been drinking a lot of sours which I know most people hate due to the intense tang.

Nicest I've had recently was a pint of cherry kola sour, delicious but makes me question what beer actually is and if beer is that then what am I drinking?

Anything by vault city gets a try too, amazing stuff (for me)

Can't stand brewdog though, majorly gone down hill and most of their beers are good awful combinations. I don't get the marshmallow obsession in beer

Electric vehicles to pay full congestion charge.

Would be interested to read your source on this. A lot of manufacturers have/are opening battery recycling facilities that will negate the need to mine battery materials twice

Electric vehicles to pay full congestion charge.

A lot of ignorance in this thread.

Yes EVs can charge from electricity generated in every which way but there are providers who only buy renewables on the market. EVs can offer a lot of flexibility to the grid (when plugged in) allowing the grid to avoid increasing gas powered turbines when demand is high and renewables are low. The battery can then be recharged when the opposite of true

As we shift more to renewables then the gas powered plants will reduce output

you could be right, looks like he left in June 93 before the infamous 100 goals conceded season

at 16:38 22 May 2024

Has there ever been a manager who has won promotion to the PL but left before the start of the season?

Crazy to think this year could have 2 (Maresca and McKenna)

Sorry if this has already been asked/answered. I did search but didn't find anything.

Club will be in a good place next season tells me he's off! (n/t)
at 11:19 22 May 2024

"Club will be in a good place next season"

Will the club be in a good place next season if McKenna leaves? No, so he's not going.

Will the club be in a good place next season if McKenna goes but picks a replacement he thinks will do a similar job? Yes.

So he's either staying or leaving but will sort us out so we're all good.

Watching Saturday's game from overseas
at 14:08 1 May 2024

I'm going to be in France for the Huddersfield game and am starting to get concerned I'm not going to be able to watch.

I was banking on signing up for Town TV from abroad and watching through that but am I right in thinking that now it's on Sky it won't be on Town TV?

I thought about using a UK VPN and watching on Sky Go on my phone but it doesn't seem to work when connected to any VPN.

Any ideas? Would rather go legit than a dodgy stream site but I'm starting to think I don't have much choice.

How are they being silenced? That's a bit over the top.

They're still free to flood the airways with dogwhistle rhetoric, just not at that particular conference in Brussells.

Keep cluching those pearls!

By that logic it was facist and dictatorial to ban National Action.

There is a fine line between xenophobia and racism. One that Nigel and his ilk trample all over.

Shock horror people don't want a gathering of racists.

We need a good song for Omari
at 11:39 27 Feb 2024

Quite liked this from CityBlue a while back:

When the ball's at his feet
His first touch is so sweet
That's Omari

As he runs down the wing
You will hear the fans sing
That's Omari

When the ball's in the net
You will never forget
That's Omari!!!

BlueSpark the other day:

He twists and he turns,
he comes on for Wes Burns,
That's Omari

so many possibilities I'm surpised it's not taken off
