Yeah I was 18 and went on the special train.
Remembering standing on Ipswich station waiting to hear if the game was on or not.
Unbelievably it went a head.
The way end was an open terrace and covered in snow and it was bloody freezing.
We were lucky to get it back to Portman Road as Bobby Gould scored for Rovers and it was disallowed for offside when he was clearly onside.
I remembering getting bombarded by the Rovers fans with stones on the way back to the train.
I think this was the closest we came to losing in the cup run. |

It shows that we didn’t have many days to celebrate at that time, nevertheless it was a great day out. When we scored my glasses somehow landed about 3 rows back, one lense came out and spent the rest of the day looking through one lense.

We always hear we want to go far in the cup. (But do we?)
I fully understand McKenna wants to give game time to the fringe players.
We should have had the game won in the first 15 minutes if we had any quality in finishing.
If we want to proceed in the cup then why don’t we play a strong side from the start and once we have the game won, then bring on the fringe players?
By the time we bring on our first team players our opponents have gained confidence and we are then panicking and it’s too late.
Surely we are doing this the wrong way round.
A part from being embarrassing in front of the whole country I do worry what effect this will have on our promotion drive it will have……

Well pissed off, never had covid before, so to go down with it two days before the game not happy.
So I will be watching it from the edge of my settee instead of my normal seat in Sir Alf stand.
I can’t remember wanting to win a game so badly for a long time.

Everybody has been saying it should be called off since yesterday.
With the train station closing due to flooding in Rotherham and several flooded areas around the area it beggars belief how anybody with any sense could postpone the game so late. It should have been postponed 09.00 this morning.
With over 2000 Ipswich fans already either in Rotherham or nearly there it is a disgrace the way this has been handled.
Rotherham should pay for all wasted travel expenses for Town fans. |

I was there.
Great day in Cologne before the match,
Great support from the Ipswich fans , the amount of Town fans were swelled by a lot of squadies which were stationed locally.
There was some fighting between them and the Germans after the game.
I remember getting off the coach in a long avenue which had tall trees down both sides, thought we would easily find our coach not realising there were several identical avenues. Spent alot of time going up and down the avenues! We were last ones back on the coach just in time as the coach was leaving for the ship.
Great result against a very good Cologne team.

Good value for money.
My only issue was how the two screens had been positioned.
When you chose your seat on line it appeared both screens would be at each end of the pitch with a gap for the middle section of seats.
However both screens were positioned to the left hand side of the pitch, meaning fans who chose the seats in the right hand block did not have a great view of the nearest screen.
Luckily my seat was on the left hand side of the block, fans who were seated on the right side of the block would not have seen the screen very good. I went home with a neck ache with having to look at the screen from an angle. I spoke to several fans who were in the end block and they also complained about not having the view their seat showed on line.
Hopefully the club will learn from this as it was a great idea. |
