I suppose the the reason they should support them is because it seems to me that it's their fault that the smaller clubs are so financially challenged? The big clubs get more exposure so inevitably takes a portion of fans that would otherwise support their local club. They also have enough resources to entice any young prospects away before having to fairly reimburse the clubs. It's quite easy to think of each club as a stand alone organisation that needs to run making a profit, but in reality the market they are competing in is geared towards the success of only a few clubs meaning its impossible for a club to be run sustainably whilst not falling down the leagues. There are of course exceptions, but unfortunately these being so few demonstrates just how broken the current structure is. I think there needs to be some aid for smaller clubs otherwise any club not in the lucky few has a glass ceiling placed above them and the whole thing continues to be just a vanity project for Sky's favourites. |
