So will people be happy with Lambert If he doesn’t win a game til January?
at 07:16 9 Dec 2018

Serious question as I’ve said on here before I feel he’s getting a free ride based on results on the pitch but people keep saying “they’re not his players” or “wait til he signs players in January” so it’s a serious honest question:

Are you happy with Lambert even if he doesn’t win a game til mid-January? Despite this squad having a better record under Hurst?

Lamberts free ride.
at 08:27 2 Dec 2018

I don’t get it. Comments on here saying “he is a good manager”, “it’s not his fault”, “I’m giving him a free ride”. Why?

He’s a good manager - is he? He was good many years ago. His last job was to save a team from Relegation (Stoke) and he failed and got relegated with a whimper then let go. Sound familiar?

It’s not his fault - yes I agree he doesn’t have a great squad but are we really going to let him off completely as the squad isn’t great? He hasn’t won a game yet! Even with a poor squad a good manager would scrape a win somewhere, Lamberts record is appalling. If nick played midfield 3 of Skuse, Chalobah and Downes at home to Bristol City in a must win game people would lose their minds.

Giving him a free ride - To me this is accepting relegation and mediocrity. “It’s not his fault, he didn’t buy these players, let him off”. So we’re just letting him get away with not bringing any points home? Why should we accept this? It’s a small club attitude and in the championships were not a small club.

I know this will get loads of down votes as people seem to think Lambert is the messiah but he has done the same in his previous recent jobs. Talked a great game, always talking up the fans but ultimately failed on the pitch. This is no different.

It amazes me some people think we arent going down
at 09:37 29 Nov 2018

Some people truly have their heads in the sand.

Two games ago we we're 5 points adrift from safety. No one in the history of the Championship has ever stayed up in that position. We are now 6 points from safety with 2 games less to play (7 points effectively due to the wort goal difference in the league).

Lambert has improved things no end but bottom line is he isn't bringing in points. Those saying "wait until January" we will effectively be down by then anyway as too far adrift.

I heard in the north stand on Friday "theres three worse teams than us"... not based on this seasons performances or results.

Im not saying this to get people down or have a go at anyone i just feel people need to be realistic here. We should always stay behind the players as no one wants to get relegated but people need to be realistic about our situation.

Paul Lamberts easy ride
at 09:31 26 Nov 2018

The man is a PR master. Getting the old players in gets them onside, praising the fans, not talking about Norwich at all, showing clips of training on social media. It's made everyone buy in to him and what he wants to do and i want him to have huge success and keep us up.

But... 2 points from 3 games. Where the "new manager bounce" people talk of? Yes performances have improved but we're still not creating chances so we're better, but still a long long way off.

Ask yourselves also, if the old irishman we had in charge had played a midfield 3 of Downes, Chalobah and Skuse for three games in a row would you be singing his praises or would you be saying he is too defensive and not putting any creativity in to midfield? I think we know the answer most people would give.

PR genius.

The Paul Lambert love in
at 08:25 21 Nov 2018

Now im 100% behind Lambert, the team has improved dramatically since he has taken over. He has shown a connection with the fans and former players and is doing a great job of building a bond.

However, He has managed 2 games and has 2 points. West Brom on Friday, if we're realistic, it will possibly be 3 games and 2/3 points.

I am please with what Lambert is doing but some people are getting so over hyped by him and think they need to just calm down a little and take a step back. He can be an amazing PR man but that doesnt change anything on the pitch. Maybe we should wait and see how many wins we get over the next X number of games before brown nosing him too much?

Some people are getting far too in to a manager who has left his last 3 clubs within the first 12 months and hasnt won a game for us yet (early days obviously).

we could have got 2 red cards..
at 08:00 4 Nov 2018

I’m not sure how many people saw these two incidents but I was in the lower north stand on the side of the co-op and in the second half I saw two instances were a harsh referee could have sent off two of our players.

First was Roberts, he was fouled tussling for the ball then stuck his leg up and went studs first in to the defenders thigh. Second was Sears a little later when pushed off the pitch he kicked out at a defender kicking him in the shin.

Overall I don’t think the ref had a great game by any means he was pretty poor but I do think we got lucky there especially with the Sears one.

(On a side note I didn’t see the Chamber incident where he got booked either, as it was off the ball and the player went down holding his face again another ref may have went straight for red).

Good managers should pick the formation based on the players available to them
at 12:58 3 Oct 2018

Several managers, pundits etc... (Carlo Ancelotti in his book springs to mind) state that a manager chooses the best formation for his team based on the players available to him and doesn't force his preferred formation on the team.

We do not have a target man, we have strikers who want to run in behind. We do not have wide attacking forwards, we have wingers who want to hug the touchline and cross a ball and not be in the box.

So why were are playing a 4-2-3-1 i have no idea. It isn't working, the players don't suit it, change things around.

Lack of players supporting the manager is deafening
at 12:54 3 Oct 2018

Since the start of the season i cant think of any instances where players have come out and defended the new manager. Normally in these situations you get the cliched comments of "the new manager is bringing in some new ideas and we need time to adapt", or, "The manager has some new things he wants to try and we're learning it will just take a little time" but i cant remember any player saying anything like this.

I dont think Hurst has many fans in the dressing room and the constant changing, replacing players with loan players and dropping players of the year isnt going to help.

Those wanting Hurst to go, think who could be next, Grayson? Pearson? No thanks
at 18:15 22 Sep 2018

This is Evans “trying something different”, if it fails so soon he will revert to type and we will have someone like Simon Grayson in charge with more terrible football and the old boys club like we’ve had for years.

It’s been a really poor start for Hurst but it’s not as simple as should he go or not as we have to consider his successor if he does and I for one don’t want to give up on the new approach yet.

Has Hurst lost the players already?
at 18:04 22 Sep 2018

I do worry Hurst has lost the squad already. This may sound a bit dramatic but there’s several reasons for this.

1- He’s training his players for weeks, systems, formations instructions then when the derby comes up he drops players and throws in all the new signings who joined the club just days before. A player would lose confidence in him if they’re dropped.

2- Dropping Bart. He had a poor start to the season but still a senior player and player of the year. Could upset the older guard.

3- Laying in to the players after Exeter defeat. Justified, probably, too early to throw your players under the bus? Yes.

4- The players have no idea if they’ll play the next game. Constant changes make a player neevous, he can’t relax on the ball and plays poorly. No confidence in the manager as they don’t think he has confidence in them.

5- Small things like Walters injury today. All the fans sang his name as he walked off injured and when he got to the dugout and sat down Hurst didn’t go over to acknowledge him at all. I know he’s a loan player but it doesn’t take much to put an arm round an Injured crowd favourite. Where’s the togetherness?

I’ve been behind Hurst since day one and am hanging in there but I’m very very worried now.

Ideas on how to improve the atmosphere?
at 08:35 5 Aug 2018

The atmosphere yesterday wasn’t “bad” but could definitely have been improved. Instead of us posting the same stuff how “it was different back in the 80’s” or no one around me sings should e try and come up with some ideas on how to improve it?

Some clubs (Manchester United for example) have designated singing sections where fans know in that section they’re expected to sing. Also other clubs literally hang out song sheets. I do believe some fans in the stands just don’t know the words to all songs so this may help too. Any other ideas?

I’m not saying these ideas are perfect by any means a but instead of complaining about the issues maybe we should try and have a constructive conversation where instead of monogram about a problem we try and find solutions to it.

“Need some experienced championship players” myth
at 22:23 4 Aug 2018

There’s a bit of talk on here that Town need a few players with Championship experience and the same was mentioned by Mick Mills on radio suffolk after the game. Mick said something along the lines of “we need one or two players in the team who know how to play at this level” (apparently forgetting Bart, Chambers, Knudsen and Skuse) then went on to say “Blackburn looked more experienced and used to this level, although they’ve only just been promoted” so he undone his own point.

What I’m getting at is there’s this talk that we need experience at championship level when in reality it isn’t essential. Mick said Blackburn had it as they had some composure on the ball. We will get that when the players get used to the formations and what the manager wants. There is no need to replace Waghorn and maybe Garner with experienced Championship strikers, if Hurst finds a player who suits his style and formation then we will be fine.

We have some experience in the team already at this level and let’s not pretend league one and the championship are worlds apart because they’re not. It’s not championship to the premier league. Give this team some time and they will look the part. We’ve tried the experienced heads route in recent years now it’s time for young and hungry players and I for one am excited by the prospect.

Time for a new badge?
at 12:44 10 Jul 2018

I was having this conversation with someone yesterday and we decided we wouldn't be against a badge redesign for the club. As much as i love our badge and the uniqueness of it i do feel its very dated to look at and would be good to modernise.

Obviously we dont want a Leeds debacle where the badge is announced and instantly ridiculed but with the correct designers and input it could be a worthwhile task in my opinion.

Having said that i know also some fans are true traditionalists and will never want the badge changed but to me it looks dated and so reflects that impression on to the club as a whole.

Ross to Sunderland then... we're going to end up with Coleman arent we
at 13:02 23 May 2018

I completely understand Evans wanting to be thorough, second interviews, talking with several candidates, face to face discussions. But in the last couple of days Lampard has been ruled out now Ross looks like he is going to Sunderland. If Hurst wins the play-off's he could stay and then we end up with Chris Coleman.

If after all this potential excitement of young managers, fresh ideas we end up with a Coleman or Simon Grayson type the disappointment will be catastrophic.

Just get Hurst secured NOW!

Portman Road WIFI
at 13:31 8 May 2018

Not too football related admittedly but now Mick has moved on i have ended my self imposed exile and returning to Portman Road with a season ticket next season and wondered if anyone knew anything about any potential WIFI? Ive heard rumours but i expect they are just those but does anyone know if they are working on anything?

And no, i dont intend to go to a football game and sit on my phone the whole match, i find it useful to keep up to date with substitutions i've missed and checking up on the live feed of the game in case i wanted to know "who's their number 9?" or similar things.
