What to expect from Plymouth on Saturday?
at 09:35 27 Oct 2023

Argyle fan here, I think thats valid but the points dont lie. Cooper coming back is a massive boost for us. I was at the game at your place last season and loved it, what a ground you have.

We have just been guilty of a bit of naiivity at times and we've been punished every time, its been a big learning process for a pretty young(ish) team.

I suspect that since we played you - as someone else said - you've gone on another gear and it will be very tough for us to get anything from the game at the weekend.

I think we'll score, but I reckon its 3-1 in your favour.

lets see.

Budgets....Or squad value?

Interesting. thanks for that.

What i'd also say is that the money you've spent / invested will is going to put you in a very good stead in the champs next season. In reality you're 'oven ready' with a few tweaks, as opposed to wholesale changes needed.

and both Wednesday and us have elements of that .

to also apply some balance to this debate as i'd of course say that Schuey is the more worthy winner based on what he's had (budget etc) what I would say is that McKenna has done a brilliant job in terms of the style of football you play but more importantly assimilating the new players you went out and got in January, thats not always an easy task so deserves a lot of credit for that as a young manager

the players we bought in January (bought, not loans) were all cheaper / development players. Take Waine for example who came over from NZ, the quoted cost (and its impossible to dispute / verify this) was £300k. Most argyle fans dispute that its anywhere near this so i'd still argue that most of the players we've bought (and the corresponding wages) are absolutely dwarfed by you.

Thats also not a dig, i'm not trying to be obtuse (or provocative) about that, you're a far bigger club than us in terms of status, history, ground size. Literally pick a criteria, so you should be able to spend more

I would say this but I'd be amazed if our budget was even half of yours.

Yes that is all very fair and i'd agree with that, re Wedneday slipping. I cant see them winning all three and that helps me sleep at night (to a degree!)

interesting (and fair enough) we all see things through different lenses in football. Always been the way and always will be.

For me, i dont personally see the "luckiest team ever" description. We all get our slices of luck (and not) but then I would say that :-) you cant always just be fluky / lucky.

Appreciate all your opinions! But yes, someone is going to finish the season absolutely crushed. I just hope its not us.

Time will tell, thanks for your responses.

I'd agree with that yes, after Lincoln with Exeter away up next I thought it was all over truth be told.

and then Cheltenham equalised (sorry) and I felt a little better

thanks guys, this reply is sort of to you all really. Its interesting as i'm far from confident, at all really. Even now. On paper our run in looks easy, but we've not really been playing well in any of the recent games, losing 2-0 at home to Lincoln a week or two back was just terrible, an awful game.

We beat Shrews but they were on their knees and it was far from comfortable

I think we're all a lot more negative around our own clubs arent we though. As the smaller club in the trio i'd be distraught if we didnt make it now.

Its almost for me, not what we do, but what you and Wednesday do / dont do if that makes sense.

morning all,

So I keep my eye on your forum (and Owlstalk - which can be pretty funny when they lose) and just wondered what your current consensus (as much as you can get on a forum with a million differing views!) on how it'll end up for us, you and Wednesday come the last day.

You're clearly playing the much, much better football than the pair of us, but have 2 very tough looking games now. Cambridge at home looks, on paper, an "easy" one but i'm expecting it to be anything but.

Gut feel?
