Hello chaps. Imps fan here in peace - not to tease you about your league position :), but to fill you in about the Cowleys. It's been interesting over the past year watching them be linked with every single available job, from Stockport to Bristol City, but Ipswich is the one we all think they're waiting for, simply because it's close to home. The reason they haven't gone anywhere else - like Sheff Weds or Hull, for example - is because they can afford to wait for a club that has a decent chairman who will give them the control they want, because until they take another job, they're still getting the hefty wodge they were on at Huddersfield. I know many of you are upset with your chairman, but actually he registers nowhere on the tinpot-chairman scale. You could be Wigan. So what could you expect? Well, the Cowleys have tremendous attention to detail (see those videos) that will get the best out of the players at the club. They did it at Lincoln, and actually they did it at Huddersfield too. There they took pretty much the same team who had three wins in 18 months or whatever, and kept them up. It might not be pretty though - they're fairly pragmatic, and you won't be playing tippy-tappy stuff if you don't have the players for it. (Maybe you do?). They play to win, and they're not overly concerned with the niceties of the game. As much as their fans love them, opposing fans hate them. Half the home fans will hate they way they do things as well, but winning makes it all much more palatable. Somebody earlier in the thread said something about uniting the fanbase, and that they will also do. That's what they did at Lincoln. They said at interview at Lincoln that they wanted to see the kids in the park wearing Lincoln shirts not Man U shirts, and now they do. Winning games helped, but they're also great at the community stuff. They'd be opening fetes and touring schools and helping old ladies across the road. They literally revitalised the whole city here - the knock-on consequences of a (relatively) succesfull football club are not something we've had before. You have. Some of you will remember the feel-good. They turned our club around, and we'll be forever grateful to them for it, but actually we're better off without them now. What they won't do is improve players, and they'd kind of reached the end of the line here because we could not afford to buy players at the next level up. What we have now is a manager who can raise players to that level, and (as you can see) it works nicely. So, how long do you give Lambert? I reckon if he lasted the rest of the season before leaving, Danny and Nicky would still be available. They're winners, and you need to decide if you want winners, or somebody less successful who plays nicer football. |
