If I were Man City I’d be very tempted to buy him for £27 million (£30 million less the 20% sell on). He is worth so much more than that and they could always sell him again at a huge profit.
I don’t think it’s bad management by MA or town. It just goes to show how difficult it is for a promoted team to recruit - even up and coming potential stars with no premiership experience have agents who squeeze everything they can from a deal. We need to start growing our own stars…. |

I don’t often post on here but as a town fan of 50 years I feel that we need to keep some perspective on things.
Obviously it’s a massive disappointment that we are almost certainly going to be relegated this season.
I think that McKenna and Ashton did the right thing in recruiting heavily. The signings haven’t prevented us from being relegated but they gave us a fighting chance of staying up and will put us in a good position to try and bounce back next season.
I believe that our biggest problem has been that the players have suffered from an inferiority complex - this is demonstrated by our habit of getting our noses in front in games but then conspiring to throw points away.
Maybe a couple of more experienced PL performers in the team would have helped but they’d have been difficult to recruit and their wages may have been prohibitive?
Three last quick points.
Firstly, the last time we were relegated from the PL it resulted in us going into administration. The strength of our club is so much more secure this time round and we should all be grateful for it.
Secondly, McKenna has been exceptional since he joined us in almost every regard. He is a decent man who I believe Sir Bobby Robson would approve of. Yes he has made mistakes but he will learn from them.
Finally, I am ashamed at the way some supporters have treated Muric and Philogene this season. These guys are human beings - they are undoubtedly talented but struggling for form and confidence. The way some have reacted has been cruel and counterproductive. Real fans back the players through thick and thin. |

We are being linked with John Heitinga as a replacement for McKenna. Heitinga has just left a coaching role at West Ham. He was previously interim manager of Ajax in 2023 and won 11 of his 16 games in charge. |

I'll be devastated if he leaves but lets try and look on the bright side -
1) He'd have left anyway if we hadn't been promoted so at least he got us up before leaving.
2) This is happening early in the summer rather than just before the season starts which would have been even tougher to deal with.
3) Mark Ashton is very astute - he'll have plans A, B and C already.
Is it too late to cancel the statue by the way - I guess we'll lose our deposit? |
