You know what, we are going to be ok this season
at 09:29 24 Sep 2024

I also have a sneeky fealing we will be OK. Looking at Brentford last year as a comaprison who ended up safely with 39 points against the games we ahve played (Replacing Southampton with Sheff Utd) they only took 1 point against Fulham so we are alraedy 2 points ahead of that curve. In looking at equivalent fixtures they lost the next 4 so until we start to fall behind their runrate and/or lose touch at the bottom I am confident although a win would definately incraese confidence with the players.

First 3 game predictions then…
at 09:53 16 Aug 2024

Realistically anything from the first 3 games would be great. Yes 3 losses would perhaps affect confidence but looking at Brentfords results last year who ended up on 39 points and safe they only took 1 point (home draw with Fulham) from these like for like victories.

Biggest signing in the last 20 years?
at 15:25 15 Aug 2024

Showing my age but Balthatcha with all the hype around being the first Russian and scores on his debut only for Duncan to spend the rest of his time here playing him out of position. Think he may have had a couple of USSR caps as well. Accepted this is older than the OP's 20 years but someone has mentioned the great Wark and Mariner

So, the Memberships are announced
at 15:55 16 Jul 2024

It is very hard realistically to have a situation that pleases everyone. Having followed Ipswich from afar since leaving University in the 90's and moving to Scotland I understand peoples thoughts on those that paid their hard earned cash should get some form of priority. However my son who is mad on rugby and in a rugby academy at age 16 is now madly also following Ipswich and is desperate to see them live. I would love to take him to a game and keep the passion burning but with the lack of any points from previous seasons then on reading the memebership it would seem that I pay my membership fee and his and hope that we can get some tickets. Sods law would be when he then has an important rugby match!!
I think the one thing this does prove is how desperate it is to extend the ground so that there is a percentage of seats available for "turn up on the day" which allows families to pick and choose games and allows the passion to be kindled in the next generation. The success in high attendance over the last few years has no doubt in part been down to the "pack out Portman Road" initatives along with the performance of the players.

Leicester possible points deduction
at 15:51 2 Jul 2024

Just read on the BBC that they have sold Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea and it went through before the 30th June PSR deadline. Not sure why the announcement was held back or is it further dodgy dealings from Chelsea and Leicester?
Will that get them out of the proverbial and therefore no points deduction or is the points deduction historic from their relegation season?

If we sign Downes does that mean we are no longer after Sheaf from Coventry?

Took an innocent pet food related question
at 09:55 27 Jun 2024

We have 2 ex racing greyhounds [1 a failed one saw life was better not racing!!!] Fed on dry Aldi biscuits all their lfe with us and have perfect coats. Will also eat raw veg so when cooking is a mad scram for the off cuts of carrots, peppers etc. Sometime mix other foods in with the dry complete such as rice, porridge oats (is good for their coat) and gravy. They do sometimes get bored of the same dry biscuits so I mix in some gravy periodically. They obvioulsy also get all the scraps from our plates as well. My family have had show dogs for generations and mix the wet and dry food so they are not on one constantly. We tried it but found the greys preffered the dry and were less stinky!! They could fart and win olympic medals when on wet!!!! but I do understand that people have different views and as long as the dogs are happy and healthy that is all that matters.

If you are looking at used I would suggest going down the Autotrader route or other online website allowing you more choice and easy to compare. Working for What Car? we gave the Ford Puma the overall car of the year award a few years back and it is a great little car. There is a new version due out in a few months so there may be some increased deals on the current model although speaking to many Ford dealers the stock is few and far between. I drive an electric Kona and it is great when there is just me and the good lady however with a rugby playing son there is very little leg room in the back. Boot is OK but we have ex racing greyhounds and there is no way they will get in the car. I belive the petrol models are exactly the same.

So hands up, (or up votes) if after last night
at 10:26 14 Dec 2023

Like most I am waiting til the end of January, BUT if we have a cushion over third at this point I will start to belive strongly.
Our difficult run is now upto the Leicester away game. Leeds run in to the end of the season also looks tricky and will have no time to overcome it like us, and if we have a gap on them they will need to be doing everything to win. There run in is
Watford [A]
Hull [H]
Coventry [A]
Sunderland [H]
Blackburn [H]
Middlesbrough [A]
QPR [A]
Southampton [H]

XC60 or CR-V
at 15:42 30 Oct 2023

Withouty blowing my companies own trumpet try these
https://www.whatcar.com/volvo/xc60/4x4/used-review/n978
https://www.whatcar.com/honda/cr-v/estate/used-review/n19839
We also have a reliability that takes account of a large amount of customer feedback so genuine faults that customers have with their vehicles.
Hope this helps. I used to work for Honda so have always liked the CRV but both are pretty bulletproof. It will as ever come down to your preference on driveability as well as the best deal that you can get for either.

They currently do put all the blame on Westminster for almost everything from not being able to plug into international money markets to Westminster stopping their beloved bottle return scheme to now going to the high court around the gender Identity bill. It is all starting to was a little thin.

V1 Block to be released for Preston match
at 15:57 5 Oct 2023

We really need to get a better ticketing system. Have just gone on and looked at the block and obvious that some tickets have been bought that will ultimately leave odd tickets. Should only be able to book without leaving odd seats i.e from row ends or for the system to allow to book from a specific seat in mid block outwards so if you don't want to sit at the end of a row you could select the middle of the row.

Slow news day… PR development discussion continuation.. 3 questions?
at 11:56 8 Sep 2023

I know everyone i focusing on the Cobbold as it is the oldest stand and really needs replacing but as a left field thought I wondered if the redevelopment might be the Pioneer ( it will always be the Pioneer to me!!). This was attached to the old West stand in the early 80's so is almost 50 years if not older. There is no issue with a road behind as there is only the old training pitch. Redevelopment could commence as they have at Anfield by building a stand behind the current and keeping the seat allocation as high as possible during a season.
https://footballgroundguide.com/about-the-author/developments.html
There are some new stand developments in this link
Palace 13500 seats
Forrest 10,000 seats
The Bristol City stand already mentioned holds 11,500.
Not sure what the Pioneer currently holds but this would allow for a large stand to be built to add additional capacity while time is taken to redevelop the Cobbold which could take longer due to the logistics of building across the "closed" Portman Road

EDIT - EV advice including charging point apps etc.
at 19:54 21 Aug 2023

Had my company Hyundai Kona for a couple of months now. As a poster has said Zap Map by far the best. Comfortable to drive and acceleration is completely different and sometimes a little scary compared to the automatic diesel I have come out of. Charge points getting better but infrastructure still needs to be improved massively. I use MFG garages a lot as they have a number of fast charge spots. Be prepared to add some time to any travelling you do over 150 miles although good to make you have a break so not driving for too long. I did quite a lot of charger spotting before I received the car and now know of 2 spots on the A1 and M6 that have a decent amount of chargers and a the distance home to Scotland for me to make the most use of.

Scotland Holidays
at 11:28 18 Aug 2023

Depends what you are looking for and how long you want to travel. Living in the Scottish Borders it is an area that is usually massively overlooked. Also as right on the border close to the Northumberland national Park. Lots of outdoor pursuits including mountain biking [Check out the 7 stanes] This year we stayed in a cottage in Tain just north of Inverness. Drove around to see lots of scenery including the NC500 but this can get busy in the summer. As someone has mentioned our kids are now back at school so you will probably find accommodation cheaper in late August. We always did when living in England.
Dundee was another area we have stayed in with sights to see in the city but quickly into the country.

Electric cars
at 15:51 28 Jun 2023

Just had my company EV car for 6 weeks and enjoying it. Company installed a home charger and get about 300 miles range. Advantage being that whenever I leave home it is full. Like having your own petrol station. Although living in Scotland and covering the whole of the UK I have not done enough trips yet to get annoyed. Found a few motorway services that have a large number of chargers and are a couple of hours from home when heading back from the South so plug in grab a coffee, d some work reports saving ne from doing when i get home and I am back on the move after around 45 minutes. Also beneficial to make sure when travelling a big distance that I am having a proper break.
It may all change however when I have to start to que up for chargers or they are not available, but so far so good. Just means leaving home slightly earlier when heading out to clients

Squad as it stands
at 15:15 18 May 2023

Might have missed it and living up here in Scotland completely plausible, but not seen KVY mentioned in the "Squad". Is he out of contract this year. For my thoughts I would think he will be moved on anyway. I'm not sure we will see a massive turnover of players. This squad is easily good enough to hold their own in the Championship. If the right option comes available realistically anywhere that upgrades the current incumbent and has the value of their "asset" increasing then I can see us going for them, in the same way as Clarke and Broadhead being bought in during Jan. I think the Jan window may be more interesting as we will be able to gauge where we are and it may be the case as with this year that the powers that be go all in if there is a possibility of getting into the promotion battle.
