Can yoi imagine how the place will be rocking. I know results have been disappointing but he has good pedegree, you only have to listen to the players to understand he has brought ideas and knows football.
Even with terrible results and coming with Norwich baggage he has done wonders off the field. If (for me it feels like when) he starts adding results next season we have a chance to have a really special atmosphere at the club. If we can get promotion we'll be flying.
This is going to cause major knee jerk reactions but hear me out.
Where does his career go now. He's back in training but will anyone offer him a contract. Can't help thinking an Adeyemi from 2 years ago ( pre injury hell) would be absolutely the sort of player we need for L1 and someone out of our reach now. SO....i wouldnt be averse to keeping him. There i said it. BUT hold reaction for now. He needs to prove his fitness and clearly you could not offer him a standard contract. I'm talking a very modest wage with the majority being on a pay when played basis (or in squad x amount, in team x amount etc).
So basically it's built so next to no risk for us.
I apprecuate most will say cut the cord, move on. But he's a cracking player, athletic and well built for L1 football. You can put the kids in with him as good experience. It's just vert tempting if he would accept all the risk himself in his contract and not us....
He has learnt more in 5 months under Lambert then rest of his career. That tells you all you need to know re Hurst unfortunately given most of his career has been under him. His comments are really illuminating on Lambert as well. He talks about how they've always just worked it out on the pitch in his career but now everyone knows there jobs (similar to under MM) but also loads of coaching on movement and routines etc. Lambert is a proper coach, with so much to offer the players. Obviously its not an overnight fix and has completely worked with the players at his disposal (many like Nolan who have never had to absorb this sort of coaching).
For the more senior pros who have played a good level like Waghorn, Garner and lesser extent Webster and others who have stayed i think mines would have been made up on Hursts much more basic methods.
Interesting read and for anyone questioning why Lambert is right man given his record here its stuff like this why i back him. Like with Mick (albeit different styles) players know when they have a good manager!
