Are we? As a right 10 we have Szmodics and Chaplin - if we are getting PL ready players now then it's not hard to think we could look for an upgrade there. On the right we have Ogbene coming off a horrific injury and looking understandably rusty and Burns coming off a horrific injury, not back for quite a while and will be equally rusty when he is. I wouldn't be adverse to a new player coming in there. We would be fine without acquisitions in either role probably... but we'd be significantly weakened losing potentially the best player in the league... so it can only be a net loss and a backwards step not to sign someone. |

If you can get both you absolutely do it - especially for the loan with an option/obligation being quoted for Cajuste. That gives us real depth and quality in the midfield that would even stand us in good stead going in to the PL next season if it happens. |

Maybe it isn't really him "awaiting" at all and transfers just take time - there are lots of moving pieces and in the interim journos have to write something and people like to act like they know something. |
 | Forum Reply | A possible Broadhead replacement for LW? at 10:19 30 Jul 2025
We have Philogene, J.Clarke, Szmodics and if he stays Omari who could all play on the left... why would we replace Broadhead? If anything i'd be more interested in another right winger. |

Clarke really is one in the eye for all the people panicking about Hackney and wanting us to move on IMO - always get plan A when you can. I think he was just plan B when our Philogene move fell part last summer and had he signed Clarke would likely never have arrived here. I could be totally wrong and he may have been part of the plan all along - but he's certainly starting to feel like an expensive back up or a square peg in a round hole. Quality player but ultimately I (and I think McKenna) think Jaden is better. |

Brilliant. Let me know if we are all going to get on his back like we have with Philogene just because they haven't treated us like we are a dream move to Real Madrid. I wouldn't want to miss out on the chance to judge a player before or even kicks a ball for us or a handy scape goat later in the season. |

Physical monsters come in all forms surely? Pace and ability to cover ground, leap and hang time, strength and power. There are plenty of tall players out there who can't jump or cover ground who I promise wouldn't help us in the PL. |

If we are signing another keeper it needs to be because he does the ball playing stuff Palmer can't IMO - Pope is brilliant shot stopper but woeful with the ball at his feet so it's a no from me. |

No thanks. The only reason to sign him would be sentiment in my opinion - and there's no room for that when you're chasing promotion. |

Not worth that much I know but ChatGPT makes him sound like a McKenna striker for sure... Link-up & team play Unselfish and industrious – Coaches praise his “incredible” daily contribution beyond goals, maintaining pressure, making key passes, and boosting teammates Hold-up ability – Comfortable carrying the ball on his back, holding possession, and laying off opportunities for others Work rate & mentality High-energy engine – Known for relentless work ethic—crashing into challenges, chasing down defenders, and pressing vigorously Physical presence – At 1.83 m, he combines height and strength to win aerial duels (~35 % success rate) and support defensive actions (~65 %) Style summary He’s a modern direct striker: An instinctive finisher with a variety of finishing skills—inside the box, from range, and with either foot. Equally valuable as a focal point and a team-builder—able to create chances and support transitions. Displays persistent pressing and stamina—often seen tracking back and applying defensive pressure high up the pitch. |
 | Forum Reply | “Your party” by Corbyn x Sultana anyone going to vote for them? at 14:15 24 Jul 2025
I can't agree with this at all. There's too much going on in the world to only talk about the environment. WHat are they supposed to do whilst the other parties and the media are discussion other topics? Not say anything? Seems like a great way to miss out on chances to speak to the electorate and not win their vote. What if they do win a seat or (unrealistically) a majority and thereby we had a green Prime Minister? Those people have to have positions and policies on everything. |
 | Forum Reply | Will this be yet another summer window… at 10:23 23 Jul 2025
I would suggest the fact we kept the 9 shirt open (Delap obviously would have fancied it given he's chosen it at Chelsea and his previous 19 shirt was vacant) and seemingly chased Broja all summer suggests we didn't get our striker last summer in theory. In practice, Delap surpassed everyone's expectations and filled that role magnificently. However, those Al Hamadi cameos at the start of the season show why we were almost definitely after another one. |

That's nothing to be scared of though is it? They needed that to get anywhere near our level on finances - I certainly doubt they can outbid us financially. They received less than the Liam Delap fee for the CWC (yes, before someone feels the need to say "erm actually..." I understand that's not all profit etc. etc. but it goes to show the level we are at currently) |

Has to be a slight failure in squad building really when Philogene, J.CLarke, Szmodics and Broadhead are probably all best suited to playing as a left 10 in our system. I'm not saying they can't fill other roles - but if I were putting each one in a role to get the best out of them that's where I think they'd be. Interesting few weeks ahead. |
 | Forum Reply | 3 weeks to the season opener at 09:23 18 Jul 2025
Very much this - if as has been stated, they are good enough for mid table Championship teams, then they are very much good enough to be a last resort here. I can't imagine many teams in the division will have a better 3rd striker or 4/5th midfielder if i'm honest. |
 | Forum Reply | 3 weeks to the season opener at 08:53 18 Jul 2025
This is all fine and well but what if the options are sign someone of the ilk of Hackney but it takes another couple of weeks... or sign a lesser player right now? It's not as simple as just get our top target through the door exactly when we want them is it? The club may save a chunk of FFP money but negotiating for longer. The player may be waiting for a PL offer before accepting they are going to play Championship football for another year. There a people involved and moving parts. |
 | Forum Reply | Ipswich currently 8th in championship table.. at 08:48 18 Jul 2025
In the same way a lot of fans underestimated the level of the PL, a lot of our fans seem to have forgotten the level of the Championship. We were in touching distance of winning the league last time out, We have bought in Johnson, O'Shea, Greaves, Matusiwa, Ogbene, Philogene, J.Clarke, Szmodics - a PL regular, another who was off the back of a good PL season, a Ligue 1 regular starter, and a selection of the finest Championship players of recent years. Plus we will have more money to spend than most, if not all, teams in the league with parachute payments the Delap transfer and dare I say the Omari transfer. If Omari stays he's the best player in the league and that in itself goes a long way. Yes there are gaps in the squad but the season doesn't start today and i'm confident we have the funds and ambition to bring in some impressive additions for the level. We are 3 additions away from being very competitive for automatic promotion as it stands (more would be nice) and we've seen how quickly two players can walk through the door. I think we have to accept that the delays probably mean we are really reaching for some exciting targets. |

Coincidence that the two stories started around the same time? Does Omari ultimately fund Hackney plus one more? |
