| Forum Thread | Is the truss line on windfall tax dishonest or just illogical? at 12:36 8 Sep 2022
- We should apply a windfall tax to help pay for fuel crisis - No. We can't tax our way to growth. Its a complete straw man / non sequitur. Noone says we can tax our way to growth or that we should try. The question is about ginagorous unusual profits created by a war rather than by investment or clever work by energy companies. Nothing about such a tax on excess profits in such unusual circumstances has any bearing on companies inclination to invest. You could even arrange the tax so there us exemption for profit demonstrably invested in green energy or environmental progress. |

Or perhaps just so painfully lacking in objectivity and self awareness, that the difference becomes meaningless. ""We are one whole and entire United Kingdom", Johnson says, making the case for the union. He adds he believes the "union is so strong that those that want to break it up will keep trying, but they will never, ever succeed" This would be a union on the point of destruction as a result of the Bre4xit project, and the dishonest dealings on the NI protocol and borders (which were always a fundamental issue without a solution, but were deliberately ignored and washed over by Johnson) |
| Forum Thread | Trypophobia adverts on twtd at 18:54 4 Sep 2022
This will sound silly to most. I suffer from trypophobia. Its an irrational fear / reaction to certain organic holes patterns. Not cripplingly so, but sufficiently that certain images or sights can cause me to obsess about them, mentally, for minutes, hours or sometimes even days. Really not comfortable and on rare occasions (one in particular) it has really messed with my mood and wellbeing for days on end. The weird thing is, its a bit like the old saying about car crashes. You can't not look, when you catch a glimpse of it. For a long time, TWTD and some other sites have occasionally had spam links / ads that are clearly solely desigend to cause that unpelasant reaction in people. You know the ads in the midst of a thread which say "you'll never believe how much house prices are in Theale" or "Where Clint Eastwood lives now will make you sad", or "X went to the doctor, who called the police"? More and more often there are those links with "man has strange bubbles on his finger" or that sort of thing, with an image (often crudely photoshopped and unrealistic, but still effective). This morning was a crude picture of a baby's nose with small organic holes crudely photoshopped inside it. I have just looked at my cat's nose which instincitvely reminded me of it, and have now felt off for the last 30 minutes and can't shift the image. I don't think I can use TWTD without an adblocker anymore, or maybe just not on phone or tablet (I do have a blocker ont he pc anyway). This is the third day this week I have had an unpleasant time as a result of those ads. It is beyond me why such things are even made. The only reason must be to upset people. They are so ridiculously stupid as "stories" they are clearly clickbait designed to trigger people's phobia. |

It used to be that you clicked the "no marketing" thing and most (though not all by any means) would not send you loads of crap after you ordered something online etc. The bug gers are now getting round it by endlessly sending things purporting to be about your order, but which are really marketing: follow ups asking for reviews, endless updates on your order with links to other products etc. Bloody annoying. |

Is that dealing with timewasting by adding time on, does not actually properly adddress the problem. They still benefit from the break, the rest, the disruption, the destruction of momentum and so on. |
| Forum Thread | Throw ins and the touchline at 20:43 21 Aug 2022
Went to a non league game yesterday. Made a fool of myself complaining to the lino about a player taking throw ins with his feet mostly over the line. Apparently the rule is that its fine, so long as some part of each foot is touching the line; i.e. its okay if your foot is well over the line so long as your heels are touching it. Has this changed recently? I have never seen players do that before. |

| Forum Thread | A fine reason to watch the women's football at 09:11 16 Jul 2022
I had the most luxurious football wee ever at St Mary's last night. Acres of urinal real estate, only 3 blokes in there. I could jog up and down getting my day's exercise whilst going to the loo. |
| Forum Thread | Anyone into ponds? at 13:14 10 Jul 2022
Not a particular interest, but we have one which was neglected. Last year I cleared it of crap (it was about 70% plant matter by that time- you could almost walk on the surface). It is now empty, almost. Pretty sure that there must be a tiny leak somewhere. Ideal opportunity to clear out all the sludge and crap and re line it. Was thinking of doing so in Autumn to try not to disturb wildlife, but there is barely an inch of water left so... Will it be desperately harmful to do it now? I see little life in there except hundreds of watersnails. I could chuck them all in a trug full of sludge whilst we do it, I suppose. No sign of the newts and tadpoles which were visible a month ago. |

But how does this obnoxious unsporting bully of a creature get away with it? A footballer who spits at the crowd, abuses refs and engages in repeated agression and intimdation towards opponents gets a long ban. Just how weak is the officiating? |

Thinking probably greek islands, but open to others in sensible range. Stuff to do / visit - not just beach. Happy to do a hire car if necessary, but not essential. Probably self catering, ideally with private small pool etc and walking distance to some half decent watering hole and / or restaurant. Previously we went to Bahiazul in Fueteventura, which hit all the right notes. Enough rooms for family (not these crazy hotels where your kids sleep on a sofa bed in the same room...), small private pool. 5 minutes form a pizza place / bar, 10 minutes from town in the car. Ideally something similar in a different lcoation! https://www.bahiazul.com/en/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwntCVBhDdARIsAMEwACn5HjBZNAzaEGeqscEEn |

How on earth does an event that kills several competitors every year continue? Whilst I am all for making one's own choices, there is no other sport that would be allowed to continue. |
| Forum Thread | What are Turkey playing at? at 19:35 16 May 2022
Sweden, perhaps the most inoffensive, measured and reasonable nation which has ever existed, a "hatchery for terrorists"? Time Putin apologists and authoritarian regime based Turkey got the boot from Nato, if that is necessary to get Finland and Sweden in. |

Why should russia play at neutral venues? Remove them from all competitions. |
