I can hack us losing - it happens, we have no divine right to win because we're 59 places up the pyramid. I can even hack the abject performance - sometimes the other team can get on top and you can't assert yourself. But, I can't hack a line up with 7 essentially defensive players. How were we supposed to win? Hope the ball luckily bounced off one of our defenders and went straight to Tom? And it keeps happening - Rotherham at home last season, the last 20 minutes against QPR, last night. You can't win without being set up to try. Madness! Any idiot can see that, can't they? Even Milne alluded to it. |
 | News Comment | QPR 2-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 19:27:00
When Douglas came on my other half turned to me and said 'would anyone else in the ground have made that substitution?'. It was pure madness. As others have said we were on top and should have gone for the jugular, not try and shut up shop and blow it. Overall, we played a bit better, but squandered our chances and gifted them their goals. |

Er...have any of the people who criticise Evans ever read the Financial Fair Play Rules? These limit how much cash can be put into the club and how much we can lose each season. This includes paying wages (e.g. for loans, as well as spend on transfers). On the surface of it he may actually have put in as much as he could in the last few seasons. This season the rules have changed and you can run a larger debt than in previous seasons, though whether that's a good thing for a club already massively in debt I don't know. In practice this means while the club runs at a loss we can't really expect any marquee signings, although we should be able to use some of the money from the Murphy deal. I don't know if Evans can write off the debt within the corporate structure of his group as some have suggested. This might be technically possible, it's more likely that the club debt reduces his overall tax bill, but that he'll still lose money from the club. While it's frustrating that he's so low key, he has the benefit of not interfering with the football side of the club and as far as I can see he's not been as tight as people have made out, just constrained by the rules. |
 | News Comment | Fulham 1-2 Town - Match Report at 00:08:27
Keaneish, I don't really agree with what your Fulham fan friend said. In the first half we were excellent. It wasn't a pass and move classic and was characterised by McCarthy's preferred chip forward and press style and triangles in the corners, but generally there was far less aerial stuff and lots of good interplay and movement. After half-time when it was still 1-1 they had tons of possession and we defended really deep and just tried to catch them on the counter. It's impossible to tell whether this was deliberate on our part, they stepped up a gear, or whether we were less effective with Skuse off the pitch. They played decent, quite attractive possession football, switching it from side to side but without much penetration and our counters were pretty good on the rare occasions when we broke out, nearly always leading to chances. It was a bit frustrating that we weren't on top like in the first half, it was a bit scrappy in midfield, but is wasn't dross by any means. |
 | News Comment | Davis Linked With Town Return at 21:20:40
Kelvin was really good for us, but hasn't managed to cut it at two attempts in the premiership. Therein lies the problem, now we're in a fix we keep bringing in people temporarily to try and get us out of the hole, but very few of them are good enough in the long term. The logic of that is that we should really give Loach a proper go to see if he can make it. |
 | News Comment | Town Confirm Orr Loan at 11:43:29
Most important thing is not to put Chambers back in the middle. Any combination of Chambers and anyone else in the centre = we ship a shedload of goals. Sadly he is the problem, mainly because he's the slowest player in our already slow team. |
 | News Comment | Crystal Palace 5-0 Town at 20:29:45
Possibly the weirdist game I've ever seen last night. One thing that was painfully obvious is that this has got to be the slowest town side ever. Not only can most of the team not run, but when we were in possession we moved the ball so slowly it was pitiful. Palace's quick wingers could just do us for fun. Our left side was totally ineffectual, the signing of Chambers has made things worse because he's so slow. Can't believe no one picked that up before we signed him. Carlos and Lee had some attacking impetus on the right but as soon it broke down Palace simply moved the ball into the space where Carlos wasn't and we didn't have any one quick enough to cover the threat. Also there's no point having loan players no better than the players we already have. Henderson isn't better than Loach, who isn't really any better than ALB. We should stick with Loach and give him a chance to make it. Might as well try Tommy and Moshni in defence. Any combination of Chambers + one doesn't work. At least Moshni might be quicker than the others/possess some talent. Breathe out, verbal enema over, look forward to Saturday. |

Agree with many of the concerns about being loanee dependent again. One thing occurs to me though, if we have Campbell upfront with Lee Martin behind we'll actually have some pace in attack for the first time in living history. |
 | News Comment | Jewell: Murphy Deal Beyond Town at 19:07:20
I thought Murph put in a decent shift this time round, having been a bit ordinary in his Keano stint. Linked up well with Cresswell. Don't understand the reservations about Boyd, he actually has a real level of ability. We've specialised in very average workaday midfielders for too long and really need someone that can unlock sides. Anyone at the Palace away match would have seen that, all the possession, but when we got up to the edge of their area Drury and Leadboots were reduced to passing it long from side to side. (That's not to say I don't rate Drury, he's done really well). |
 | News Comment | Burnley's Marney Linked Again at 18:05:30
Why, why, why! Let's hope it's a smoke screen! FFS GET BOYD! Talented, best years ahead, can score, not another typical clogger. |
 | News Comment | Leadbitter Turns Down Town Offer at 02:15:25
We seem to have specialised in this type of very ordinary midfielder for too long. Would never cut it in the premiership. If we've got ambition we need someone better. Best off without. |
 | News Comment | Town Launch New Kits at 14:06:49
What the f*ck! Kit isn't too bad, though don't like the red myself. Photoshoot and video are risible, sub-benny hill dark ages sh*t. It actually makes me ashamed. |
 | News Comment | Jewell: We Deserved Victory at 23:15:20
It was an intense and absorbing game yesterday. We sort of edged it rather than deserved it. They were very sharp up front and in midfield and exposed some of limitations. About Boyd he is better than any of our midfielders, we should have gone for him last season when we were rumoured to be in for him. Might be too late now. |
 | News Comment | Whatever Happened to Sixto Peralta? at 20:57:21
Thanks a lot - that was a genius read! What a great player as well, wish we could find people like Sixto these days. |
 | News Comment | Whatever Happened to Sixto Peralta? at 21:31:36
I enjoyed that blog. In some ways a good result tomorrow and a couple of bad one for the others below us might almost get us over the line to safety. There's something up with our approach to signings, why we haven't managed to sign any permanent defenders remains a mystery. I can't understand why that kid at Crewe would prefer to be playing away at Barnet when he could have been playing in the West Hame game either, or how we could have lost out to Huddersfield for Wallace if he's a real prospect. Whether it's Clegg or some other part of the set up is hard to really know. I'm glad we didn't get the Portsmouth players, there's something morbid in sniffing round three players from a dying club who didn't want to come in the first place. If they were that much better, they'd be that much higher up the table, but they aren't. So they can't be. We need to go after prospects or discoveries rather than failed ex-prem players or average players who could never cut it in the premiership were we ever to get there. Agree that ALB needs to play. We need continuity to give our defence any chance and even if McCarthy suddenly comes good he'll only go back at the crunch point of the season anyway. The false promise of the start of Keano's second season involved two ingredients the introduction of Hyam and Andros Townsend, who has a level of talent above anyone else we had. Keano soon alienated Andros and sent him back and as usual lost confidence and left Hyam out. It took Jewell too long to notice him again. Garv, did you really mean 'pair shaped'? That's quite intriguing! |
 | News Comment | Town to Sign Hearts Midfielder at 15:31:36
Can't believe we haven't prised that kid from Crewe. They need the dosh and why would you rather be playing away at Barnet today when you could be playing against West Ham at Portman Road on Tuesday? Still no defenders on the actual radar as opposed to the rumour mill. Sigh! At least this Hearts guy can run. |
 | News Comment | Jewell Hugely Disappointed at 01:06:25
This probably is the worst side we've had since the end of the Robson golden era. Although the Forster (not actually his fault, injuries/age) - Parkin frontline comes to mind. We've even played really well at times (West Ham away, Brighton at home). But we've also been so poor, so often. I no longer believe Jewell or his staff have any impact over whether we're good, bad or indifferent. If you were starting from scratch which of our players would you pick even for a decent championship side - let alone dreaming of the premiership? Barely any of them! It's time to do what we should have done in the first place find a young ambitious passing manager and build a team. |
 | News Comment | Newcastle's Smith Linked at 00:48:44
No,no,no,no,no,no,no,no! Is someone, somewhere just doing this to wind us up? Nothing against Alan Smith, but how will we ever get anywhere with people that peaked years ago and weren't that good in the first place. He's crocked. He doesn't score. What exactly would he do for us? Please let this period pass, it is madness! |
