 | News Comment | Town Confirm Young Signing at 19:51:08
Think this is an inspired signing. Especially if Morsy goes, taking his leadership qualities with him. Young previously won the PFA Young Player of the Year award, played circa 200 games for Manchester United. He won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Europa League, and was appointed club captain. He played for Inter Milan for a year, and won the Serie A title. He rejoined Villa, captaining them to 7th, and then signed for Everton. That kind of experience and leadership will be invaluable in a tough season ahead both on and off the pitch. |
 | News Comment | Town Not Up For Sale at 16:54:47
The seasons under Gamechanger (last one being the exception) have been great. But amid all the Three Lions enthusiasm, I couldn’t help but smile wryly at Brett Johnson’s quote, which neatly highlights their true purpose — a huge payday (and why not, of course): “this investment is not a bet on media rights, rather it is a unique opportunity to invest in a club which focuses on creating monetary value through several levers.” Well, that may be the case — but it’s a long way from Sir Bobby’s quote from a bygone age: “What is a club in any case? Not the buildings or the directors or the people who are paid to represent it. It’s not the television contracts, get-out clauses, marketing departments or executive boxes. It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city. It’s a small boy clambering up stadium steps for the very first time, gripping his father’s hand, gawping at that hallowed stretch of turf beneath him and, without being able to do a thing about it, falling in love.” Ah, for the days of jumpers for goalposts — rather than data-centred recruitment and 2.96x gross MOIC. But then that’s progress, right!? |
 | News Comment | Burgess Linked With La Liga Move at 21:50:07
I’d like to see Burgess stay as he’s been a mainstay of our defence in the more successful campaigns and I’m sure he’d do a job in the Championship. That said, I imagine a decent contract in the weather in Girona and playing Madrid and Barcelona can’t be ignored. Additionally, we bought Greaves on the back of an impressive season in the Championship and I’m sure if he plays week in week out next season (assuming Wolves don’t implode whilst we pull off a miracle) then he’ll be a standout player for us, and eyeing a return to the Premier League come next May, or earlier in the season hopefully. |
 | News Comment | PGMOL: Webb Town Meeting Private at 22:46:03
Not surprising they want it kept under wraps but I expect MA will inform supporters that he put his point across and that we'll have to see what comes of it. No point telling supporters he was p***ed off and was calling Webb in if not. |
 | News Comment | Brighton & Hove Albion 0-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report at 17:29:45
A very good, confidence boosting point away from home. Recognising that Wolves and Everton have yet to play, I’d have taken 4th bottom after 4 games at the start of the season. And, I’d take it again at the end of the season, although I hope (and am quietly optimistic that) we’ll be higher up the table! |
 | News Comment | Debut For Muric as Szmodics and Johnson Start at 14:08:41
When playing the likes of Fleetwood & Burton Albion who’d have thought this day would ever arrive? Win, lose or draw, and I think it’ll probably be the middle option .. here we go! COYB! |
 | News Comment | U21s to Face Borussia Mönchengladbach at 11:37:57
But as my wife just reminded me “ Still it’s football and beer and a break from the norm. What’s your problem?” As always, she’s right! Well, almost always. |
