Money was Magilton's downfall. Before he had any to play with he had to work with the players to get the best out of them and build team spirit. Once the money arrived we saw the 'real' Magilton we were all expecting, the 'do what I say or you're out' approach. Keane came along with the same approach, blew some more money, alienated the players. I think we have a weaker squad than when Magilton left - that was actually a team capable of being promoted under the right manager. |

Paul, first job, get Counago back from his loan spell at Palace. 100% Ipswich, worked hard, scored goals, loved by the fans. Scotland and Counago can get us out of this league. While you're there, grab Ambrose. Send Priskin to the nackers yard and work on Wickham (and let's not hear any more BS please about £10m bids for a player who has hardly scored a goal for us - if so many clubs were so desperate to sign him why is he still here?). He's one for the future but needs work. Get Townsend back on loan - he's one player who can lift the crowd. And let's reward Jaime Peters for having the patience of a saint and play him every week down one of the wings. Not much we can do about the players Keane shifted out just to bring in the same or worse but the damage done to the ones that remain can be repaired. Let's see some players improved by a manager. Let's see some attacking football, pace down the wings and two intelligent strikers playing regularly together. |

Feel like it's another missed opportunity to be honest but feeling more optimistic after hearing the press conference. Sounds quite realistic, talked sense. Not sure about a 'long term' approach - feel we've been down that road a few times now and ended up right where we started. Contract is for a couple of seasons which suggests promotion is the aim in that term. We've had the nucleus of a promotion side for 4 years now. I agree we need to build a team capable of staying up once promoted, but who has the power to choose when they'll be promoted. Any team that can get you promoted is capable of staying there - look at Blackpool. That's all down to the right manager building incredible team spirit. Hopefully Jewell will turn out to be a diamond and get us up with a few additions and some top man management. |

Much as I've been praying for it not to be Jewell, it is, so let's see what he can do. A bit of basic organisation, restoring player confidence and a positive, attacking approach should get us winning again. At least this appointment has more to do with football this time rather than making headlines. Big Fat Jewell's blue and white army! |

Whoever it is I'll be praying they can get confidence up quickly. Even without all the loan players we have a decent team that the right manager could turn into promotion contenders with a few tweeks. Jewell doesn't excite or inspire me and he's not the type of manager I hoped we'd go for but his Wigan side was very solid, hard to beat with two exciting strikers. I'm still hoping it won't be Jewell but with Sky and the Green 'Un confidently announcing it on Friday, it seems the decision may already have been made last week. |

There's no magic wand, but give any 'decent' manager £10m in this league and they'll get you promoted. Just get the right manager, that's the key. Ipswich are no longer a club that has to take a chance on up and coming managers. If we can afford Keano we can afford most experienced managers with a successful track record. I think Clegg and Evans realise they made a mistake with Keane so they'll be going for a safer bet this time although Evans' will probably still want someone either controversial (for the publicity) or massive (for the publicity). Wilkins is my bet. Clegg was on Chelsea's advisory board before coming to us so he'll know all about Butch. |

I'll do it! Blast, forgot to apply. I think a fan running the team would be amazing. Think of the publicity it would generate Mr Evans. The eyes of the whole country, possibly the world, would be on Ipswich and every fan in the country would be willing on a fellow fan plucked from the terraces. There's plenty out there who would love the salary, know football inside out and are great man managers in their own field. Do a TV series to select the manager from the fans, with weekly evictions. I'd love to see an ordinary man in the street take the job on and show everyone just how uncomplicated the job is. How so many 'respected' figures in the game get it so wrong is beyond me. They probably think they know a new revolutionary way to run a team (e.g. Keano), when it's really just very simple and the formula for success has remained the same for decades. Hughton, Wilkins, Southgate, Curbishley, O'Neill, Jol would all be very acceptable to me. Love to see Burley back but maybe his day has come and gone. NO to Jewell, Butcher and the like. John Lyall did the most miraculous job I've ever seen. Improved every player on the books and got an average team promoted as champions. Turned Kiwomya from a lightweight headless chicken into a lethal striker. Now that was miraculous! Let's have another footballing scholar and gentleman like Lyall please. |

Oh, new no manager yet.......phew, let's hope the Jewell rumours are way off the mark. Negotiations ongoing with a number of people but unlikely to appoint anyone before the Chelsea game. |

Please, please, please don't let it be Jewell. If it is I'd say another huge lack of judgement and footballing knowledge by Clegg and Evans. We need a manager to bring some optimism back, someone with a good recent record. Southgate got sacked while Boro were heading for promotion and after keeping them up for years against the odds, Hughton took on a difficult situation at Newcastle and turned them into a team, discovering an England striker in the process, Ray Wilkins has obviously been a huge influence behind the scenes at Chelsea, Curbishley kept Charlton in the Premiership for years against the odds. All decent people, tactically astute, talk sense not in cliches. We need someone exciting, promising. Jewell is not the future. |

If Marcus Evans is after massive PR he should go for Ray Wilkins. With Chelseas in the cup on Sunday and butch at the helm for that game the publicity would be massive. Great coach, the reason Chelsea are now falling apart, although not sure if he'd be a good manager. I'd be optimistic if he was the choice. Unfortunately rumours about Jewell seem very strong. Disappointing. Another Joe Royle - one of the most painful periods I've witnessed. I could see us going down under Jewell. Keano was an exciting appointment but quickly showed he didn't have what it takes. Destroyed team spirit, poor signings (did he even watch them play before signing them?) and falling out with Walters after backing him as the epicentre of his new team shows how fickle he is. No player can give his best with that kind of erratic behaviour from his manager. Walters gave us everything, was voted Players Player and Fans Player of the Year but Keane humiliated him after one disagreement. If he does that to the players he rates I really feel for Counago, Garvan, etc. who were 100% Ipswich but were thrown away. Unlucky Keano. Alot to learn about man management. Crossing my fingers for Wilkins, Hughton, Curbs, Southgate or O'Neill........please not Jewell....pleeease! |
