Legal challenges to C19 lockdowns
at 18:53 15 Oct 2020

This is true but being lectured by the likes of Jenrick doesn’t give the message the gravitas it needs. Boris is proven to have lied about many things; why give him the benefit of the doubt here? The messenger is as important as the message but they’re a busted flush.

The scariest thing about covid

I don’t disagree with any of this, however there were many people who didn’t agree or obey with the blackout and other restrictions during the war. It wasn’t all ‘in it together’ back then either.

A trip made by thousands of squaddies over the years. Not a major undertaking.

Shame. It’s important we don’t live in an echo chamber. It’s essential we continue to listen to racists and extremists so they can be effectively countered. The upward curve of this one has been alarming to witness.

It sounds as though he’s doing the work that Will Keane could have done but didn’t? Perhaps Lambert has found his Holt (without the goals)?

A good piece here too:

It’s dangerous cheerleading and nothing else. Furthermore it won’t resolve the situation they claim exists, it will just deepen the divisions in society that the Tory party are responsible for creating over the past 10 years.

Me too! I turned 49 yesterday but I could work evenings and weekends as a boxer! That’s brilliant.

You’ve clearly never been to Germany. A trip over there changed my mind on wearing colours and what being a fan means.

i don’t think anybody’s celebrating. Just that they don’t care - as he has proved over many years that he cares for no one.

As we know, extremist groups will draw a lot of confidence and energy from a martyr. It could be a really nasty outcome.

I wrote about it as ‘a place of worship’ in a GCSE or A-Level English exam.

Football structure at risk of collapse, Government warned
at 21:49 28 Sep 2020

I’m also amazed that nowhere on this thread or in the article has anyone mentioned the current state of the FA.
Redundancies, massive cuts in coach education and resources along with the withdrawal of funding for elite and a lot of grassroots futsal. Not only is the pyramid in trouble but the governing body is shrinking fast - along with its influence.

These students in Manchester on the news
at 21:33 28 Sep 2020

I thought I’d add a bit to this thread.
Our godson’s mum popped in today after taking him back to University. He’s thoroughly miserable and is struggling to keep it together. He’s allowed out into the city but knows no one, all social spaces around his residence are out of bounds, including the gym - which is why he chose those halls.
He’s in a flat with five people, two lads who know each other and three girls with whom he has nothing in common. He has one session in a classroom a week and the rest is online. All freshers week activities were also online and extremely limited.

All he wants to do is play football and get to know a few people but has no means to do so. The University team won’t even start training or trials until November and societies are non- functioning at the moment. It sounds a thoroughly sh1t experience and that’s without any kind of lockdown in place on their campus.
He’s done nothing wrong and is paying a fortune for an education and accommodation that is extremely limited. As his mum put it, his expectations of going away were sky high and they’ve crashed in a fortnight.
Bloody students...
