 | News Comment | Evans: Nothing to Fear From Division's Top Sides at 10:43:52
It was a frustrating game to watch as there was a lot of misplaced passes and overhit crosses. Although we were the better side in the second half we didn't really improve in possession, and it helped that Oxford seemed to sit back and accept a point pretty early on. Burns really struggled to get into the game and couldn't have complained if he was subbed much earlier than he was. Edwards is a typical frustrating winger who clearly has bags of skill without the decision making to back it up. On the positive side, Clements did brilliantly on debut and Edmundson has proven to be an excellent signing. Walton also looked very secure in goal and made a great save in the first half. I have seen enough in the last few weeks to believe we will finish in the play offs at a minimum... |
 | News Comment | Cowley Confirms Town Talks With Pompey Winger Jacobs at 13:30:46
I guess it is Cowley talking the price up a bit, knowing Ipswich has money to spend and Pompey are cutting their squad budget. He'd probably prefer to keep him rather than let him go to a rival, despite his recent injury record.... |
 | News Comment | MK Dons Eyeing Bishop Move at 09:52:28
I guess the problem is that BIshop has been touted as having great potential for years. He's now 24 and unfortunately hasn't fulfilled the promise he initially showed, although a lot of this can put down to his injury issues. Because of the apparent focus on quality and not quantity in the squad it may be that Cook decides to cut Town's losses and let Bishop go as Town can't afford to have players who might only be fit for 25 games a season.....Also not sure where he fits in a 4-2-3-1 formation. |
 | News Comment | Hawkins: I Just Want to Get Out There and Play Football at 14:03:30
Good luck to Oli. Didn't really work out here and I think he was only really intended as an impact sub and someone to loft the ball to when chasing the game. I agree with others on here that there's been a lot of unnecessary nastiness when players have left and the 'found their level' comments are surprisingly lacking in humility considering where the club's current level is...There is still a hell of a lot of work to do to improve on the last couple of seasons..... |
 | News Comment | Edwards Signs for Wigan at 08:52:37
Not sure why some are choosing to be negative about Edwards. He was the typical frustrating winger who looked great sometimes but too often drifted out of games, or followed a bit of skill by shanking a cross. He was another who suffered from being adaptable and was often played out of position, especially last season when he was played right back/wing back. Wigan made him feel wanted and the arrival of Wes Burns here probably made him feel the opposite regarding Town. Wigan have new owners too and a decent young manager, so they could well be challenging for promotion too. It's potentially a sideways step rather than a step down...... |
 | News Comment | Speculation on Town's Available Players Gets Under Way at 11:01:42
I think this may have been interpreted as everyone can leave by the local press as it makes a better story. It's probably more like @lfitchio said that Cook is sizing up whether the players are committed to cause or not. Clearly the current squad hasn't thrived under the new management and this has probably led to Cook coming to the conclusion that maybe starting from scratch is the best way forward. There is going to be a huge number of players out of contact in the summer as clubs trim their squads post COVID so in theory there are plenty of options available alongside those potential targets who will command a transfer fee.... |
 | News Comment | Edwards MK Dons Talks Claim at 12:54:50
I guess it depends what sort of contract we're offering. If it's only an extra year you can't really blame him at 28 if he wants a bit more security than that. He also could end up a squad player here whereas I'd imagine he'd be a regular starter at MK Dons. I would probably prefer if we kept him, but I'm not too concerned if he left. As many have said he can look a real threat sometimes, but his inconsistency makes him more frustrating that anything else. |
 | News Comment | Takeover Talk at 21:54:50
I don't understand why someone would pay £30 million for a League One club which doesn't own it's ground or training ground and is over £100 million in debt to it's current owner. There's no guarantee that pumping a bit of money in would immediately gain success. The Championship is an incredibly tough division to get out of (getting out of League One is apparently hard enough) and any prospective owner would need more than a couple of years to make a profit out of Ipswich Town - maybe a five year plan at least.(to coin a phrase)...... |
 | News Comment | Gill: Real Opportunity to Build on Saturday's Performance at 13:49:37
It's quite strange to be over half way through the season and be talking about building on performances, especially a 0-0 against another mid table side (albeit one in good form). We have had a lot of injuries this season but the fact that we haven't really improved now we have most of them back says a lot about where the club currently is. The system Lambert uses clearly isn't working, no matter who's playing. |
 | News Comment | Wright and Cotter Left Out of 21-Man Senior Squad at 11:25:00
It's a shame that Lambert has pigeon-holed Donacien as a centre half based on knowing him when he was a kid at Aston Villa. He is clearly the best fit option at right back and it must have been so frustrating for him to watch even Edwards given a go in front of him. I would be surprised if Chambers doesn't retire in the summer for a coaching job at Ipswich. |
 | News Comment | Lambert: Really Encouraging, We're Still in the Mix at 08:20:54
The problem is, all of this was said after Blackpool game (one we actually won) but that was followed by two abject performances where we went back to the normal disjointed, toothless displays, we've grown so used to in the last three seasons under Lambert. I think a clear out will accompany Lambert in the summer - but of course the new manager will be told to sell players before he can buy. At this stage how many players would command much of a transfer fee? |
 | News Comment | Lambert: I'm Seeing Marcus Face-to-Face Next Week at 11:45:01
If Lambert leaves before the end of the season it will be because a replacement has been lined up and some agreement regarding a pay off has been agreed. Whilst Ipswich are in touch with the play offs, I cannot imagine Evans would rely on a caretaker until the end of the season. |
 | News Comment | Lambert: I Protected Randy Lerner at Villa For a Long Time, I Can't Do That Again at 14:01:06
Successive manager's have protected Evans in interviews to the point where you presume it's part of their job description. Jewell, McCarthy and Lambert often spoke about how great Evans was to work for and how supportive he was no matter how results were going on the pitch. In truth if Lambert is sacked (which is most likely to happen at the end of the season if Ipswich finish outside the play offs) the list of realistic candidates to replace him is pretty small. |
