 | News Comment | Full-Backs Aiming for More Goals at 14:39:03
I wonder if Chambers is happy playing at right back. He seems like a chap who would play anywhere as long as he is in the team, and the captaincy has probably made him happy too. I just wondered if he will come out and say it though. |

Phil, your headline makes it sound like he has passed his medical, seen our facilities and just has the formalities of his contract to tie up!!! |
 | News Comment | Premier Quartet Eye Cresswell at 14:50:39
But if we get a really good price for Cresswell, will Mick still only buy 1 player though to keep to the squad of 20 outfield that he wants? It would be good to know if he wants 20 because he wants a small, close group, or if thats all we can only afford. |
 | News Comment | Premier Quartet Eye Cresswell at 11:56:19
@HennersITFC I agree with you that we should play 3 at the back with Smith, Chambers and Berra, but I don't think we could play pacy wingers, we would need Hewitt or Edwards and Cresswell or others as wing backs. Unless you mean we go like Hull and Watford, I believe they used a winger on at least one side of a 3-5-2 system. I hope this is the formation that Mick would use, after hinting at a formation change, rather than 1 up front or something like that. |
 | News Comment | McCarthy: Settled Number One Vital at 07:52:08
I wonder if Mick was more interested in signing Kello before signing Brown, because he mentioned that he had joined Wolves yesterday in his press conference. I know Mick has his finger on the pulse, it just seems he was very aware of that particular piece of transfer business. I can see us making a decent cash offer for Henderson in the summer, if West Ham stay up. |
 | News Comment | Cheick One For The Future at 06:08:33
Its a bit confusing that he is one for the future, but only given a one year contract, but good luck Cheik and keep it up Jack. It would be good to get some young blood up front, because I'm slightly wondering what all the fuss about Chopra is about. There are all statement about on his day he is the best striker in the championship. Maybe true 3 or 4 years ago,but he's isn't even in the top 10 any more.Give me Kuqi or Lee any day, players chopra would say aren't fit to lace his boots, let alone bent, stewart, johnson, rhodes, wickham etc etc who are/were better. |
 | News Comment | Evans Won't Walk Away From Town at 06:10:17
Thats fine, but if we have an owner that does not really want to be in the public spotlight, surely it is Cleggs job to convey the owners thoughts, feelings, stance, plans etc on a far more regular basis. We, as fans, are left guessing from comments that PJ makes, about what 2 people(Evans and Clegg) might be feeling about certain situations, and it is only when in real crisis, that Clegg comes out to say either 1. Evans will continue to back the club or 2. We back Paul Jewell. The communication between the club and the fans is quite appalling really, and this needs to be addressed urgently. |
 | News Comment | Town Move for Mohsni at 08:06:45
Sounds like he could potentially become a kind of cult hero, and maybe improve the atmosphere at portman rd and get the crowds back. There isn't much better than the sight of a whole hearted player charging about the pitch, getting crunching tackles in and geeing up the crowd. |
 | News Comment | Fry: Peterborough Would Do Boyd Loan With View to Permanent Deal at 07:30:34
I was wondering what the clubs stance is now on wages. The high earners have all gone, Bullard, Leadbitter and Bowyer. Edwards and Scotland who would have been high earners last season have taken a pay cut. I'd imagine Ingimarrson would have been on a fair wage as well as Delaney and Sonko. I bet we were paying good amounts a week to cover Stockdale, Andrews, Collins and Murphy's loans. We don't have to pay Peters or Richard Wright anymore. We've brought in Chambers who would probably one of the top earners at the club now alongside Chopra and maybe JET. If Taylor was on 7k at Peterborough, maybe he has moved to the top earners with us alongside Chambers and Chopra, to get him to sign. I don't imagine Luongo is on too much yet at Spurs, and because Murphy is in his final year at celtic and that loan deal took so long to complete, maybe we are paying a smaller percentage of his wages this season. A contribution to N'Daw's wage from St Ettienne might be a bit but not that much and Loach would be a £5-8,000 range. I reckon we may have saved about £50,000 a week in wages there with our transfer dealings, £80,000 a week worth of players leaving, and about £30,000 a week coming in. This raises a few points- This sounds good on paper, £50,000 a week equals about £2.6 million a year, but Leadbitter cost that when we brought him, as well as the other players we have signed or fees and let walk away for nothing. It is like Evans has said we are going to have to swallow these mistakes, and start a fresh from this summer, and from now on,"I'm saving £2.6 million a year in wages". The 4 players we have actually signed will, sadly for us as fans, have some good re-sale value, as Barry Fry has pointed out above, especially Taylor and Hewitt. Loach and Chambers could also move to the Premier league if they have good seasons for a profit. Loans from the premier league, which people are despising right now, are unfortunately the only way we can get more good players to help us immediately compete in this division, and get us to where the real money is for the owner, the premier league. I'd love us to sign some gems from the lower leagues, and I think we will soon, I just think the balance is hard to find, because relegation to league 1 would be disasterous, if they didn't work out or needed time to adapt. That brings me to Boyd, who may 'only' cost £250,000, but that is more than Chambers and Loach and Hewitt, and he is older than them and from the stories we have heard during the week, is on 12k a week at Peterborough. I reckon that is more than we are paying our highest earners now, and even though he is a very good player, he will only decline in value for Evans, plus any budget we do have let surely needs to be used for the defence. Also, it sounds like we have a good, cohesive dressing room at the moment. It makes you wonder if any animosity was caused when Keane brought his boys (leadbitter and edwards) from sunderland on such bigger wages than others, and doing the same with Boyd and Taylor might be a mistake. I'm only summising these things and figures etc, I'm just trying to imagine whats going on behind the scenes and in the owners financial mind and what jewell really has to work with. Every team needs money, but it seems we don't have as much as we used to. But I'm alright with that, it was uncomfortable to labeled as favourites for promotion or to be splashing out millions and millions on players who Ipswich fans don't really identify with. What we need is for the manager, coaches and players to work together and earn their money. If what we have now is what we are going to have all season, then the manager is going to have to improve these players on the training field, that is what he is paid to do. And if being a previous striker as a pro, he can't do it, we need to get a defensive coach in to help him like we had with John Gorman and Stewart Housten. We need the same structure all through the club at all age levels, emphasising our great past and inspirational players and managers, and get the lads to get their heads down and improve themselves on the training pitch, and to be proud to play for Ipswich and not minding putting your head in where it hurts, for Ipswich. As the last few seasons have proved, throwing money at the situation is not always the way and is definatley not the Ipswich Town way. COYB |
 | News Comment | Taylor Could Become Fans' Favourite at 06:29:05
Slightly disturbed that Jewell knew nothing about Taylor until he was banging in a hat rick against us! I thought management analysed the opposition before matches, not during! Welcome aboard to all our new players and good luck to the ones that have left. |
 | News Comment | Second Scottish Link at 07:05:55
We need somebody out wide in the Chris Burke of Birmingham mould and this chap looks very similar.Burke got something ridiculous like 15 goals and 25 assists last season. Not that we were short on goals,I just think we need somebody in one of the three following roles - 1.The Murphy or Carson role - Carson has looked impressive in the last couple of games but can be very hit and miss. 2.The JET role - Hopeully with a season of championship football and 2 tough pre-seasons behind him,he will be dynamite this season, but we all know he can tire quickly. 3.The Martin role - Probably with Luongo our best player, but slighly injury/yellow card prone and with contract issues as well. Also as pointed out, Stevenson may not quite be good enough. A player like this will give competion to all players in the 3 of the 4-2-3-1, and allow players a break fom time to time. He could also hug a touchline if we needed to change to a 4-4-2. So we need 1 player like Mackay-Steven, 1 target man (Iwellumo), 1 centre back(Wilson or Berra) and Edu would be a fantastic bonus. |

What about Chris Iwellumo for up front and Papa Bouba Diop for centre mid/centre defence cover. Two big strong lads in areas we need, and a bit of experience, plus no transfer fees. |
